Vertigo or whatever

Hi everyone, had to ring our surgery on Wednesday morning because of these awful episodes of dizziness and associated sickness and I spoke with my GP that afternoon who said she'd write a script for tablets for vertigo. Next afternoon, I did a little hedge cutting then picked the tablets up, got home, made dinner for us and an hour later another episode started and lasted an hour and a half.

On Friday morning we went to our son's in Dundalk, left early afternoon because of the high winds. Home safely and a couple of hours later, I had another episode of dizziness, no sickness.

Next morning, Saturday, the winds were still very bad and the news was full of damage reports so I didn't go outside. At about 6 pm I felt really dizzy again and had a little dinner but I couldn't eat much and Mrs Tvman advised me to go to bed but half an hour later I vomited and vomited and vomited a few more times. Get the picture? Eventually I fell asleep for a couple of hours.

This is now the early hours of Sunday morning and I've pain from retching so much. I'm not feeling great but at least the dizziness and sickness have gone. I'm definitely going to ring our surgery tomorrow and possibly the emergency cancer unit number again. I desperately hope I get through the day without being ill again but I'm not confident of that.

  • Aw Ellie, my heart goes out to her, it's such a debilitating illness. When it strikes, it can be at any time of day, sitting or standing. Give her my best wishes please

    How are you doing today?

  • I have a few things going on  ,other wise not bad, thanks for asking.

  • Hi Pepperpot, thanks for stepping forward and saying what you are experiencing. I hadn't googled vertigo before now and didn't know that it isn't a disease in itself, but a symptom.

A few different types of disease can cause vertigo and yours is one of those. I can see the symptoms and also about the Eply manoeuvre.

What I'm experiencing is happening 7 days out of 10, almost 11 and so far I wouldn't say that my vertigo is caused by bending down, looking up, looking to one side or the other or standing up from seated. It just happens but I'll be ready to analyse the next time.

I googled your username and I'm so sorry to read about your dilemma, your cancer. I hope you can continue to remain as well as possible, Pepperpot.

    Take care

  • Dear  It could be from dehydration, heart or even your spinal cord. So many options. So seeing a doctor would be best. I hope you will feel better soon.

  • Hope things are a bit better for yu today, Tvman?

AS for timing of the sickness drugs, I guess it depends on what you're prescribed.

My box is for 5mg prochlorperazine oral tabs, 3 times a day.  Having had this before, I choose to take 2 of them about 45 minutes before a meal.  it's working for me, although my sickbag is my constant companion and the evening dose doesn't last all night.

I also had the 3mg buccal tablets, but it didn't seem to work and they tended to dislodge during vomiting.

Scotland has a public holiday today, so I can't reach my GP and get an urgent prescription for more, so I guess I need to ration myself.  And get Jeff Bezos to send more sickbags... sigh.

    Here's to better days!

  • Hi Cecren, I didn't have an episode yesterday, thank goodness. Your tablets are the same as mine, prochlorperazine. I've started to take (from yesterday) 2 tablets a day and I intend to take them until I see my GP. I rang this morning and couldn't get an appointment until Tuesday 13th which is very unusual for my surgery. I've put my name down for a cancellation before then. Until then I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
