Good morning, I am new on here.  I have metastatic lobular breast cancer with mets in spine, ribs and pelvis that I know of so far, more scans to come.  I am on Ribociclib, Exemastane and Denosumab.  I just wanted to ask if anyone else feels sick some mornings when they take their meds.  Some mornings I feel absolutely fine and then, like today,  I feel really nauseous.  I take cyclizine twice a day. Thanks Leex

  • Hi Leelalou,  Lee,and a warm welcome to the forum, though I'm so sorry you have found yourself here, I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis, and the awful side effects you are having, my cancer is different to yours, so my only advice would be for you to talk to your team, I know a few of the good people on here find anti-emetics and steroids help, but as I have no experience of either, I'm hopeful some of the guys  who do will be along soon to share their experiences.

You will find everyone here happy to help you in any way we can, whether it's advice, support, a chat, rant, laugh or shoulder to cry on, we may all have different cancers, but we share the same prognosis and understand what it's like to live with it, like no-one else can.

  • Thank you for your kind words Eddie, I only found out about the secondary cancer in September last year so all new to me.  Not where any of us want to be but at least we have each other here.  Leex

  • Your welcome Lee, the secondaries are a blow, I had mine in 4 other organs and 8 lymph nodes, March 2022, today NED, bar 1 lymph node, still not curable, but more time,  and some of the guys on here have amazing stories to share to give us all hope.

Like you, this is not my only forum, but it's the most important one to me.

  • Hi Leelaloo, Sorry for the belated welcome but a warm welcome nevertheless.

There are many anti sickness meds around, so if you are still experiencing nausea, I would let your oncology team, specialist nurse or your GP know about how you feel and hopefully they will find the one that suita you.

I had problems with feeling nauseous and also being sick with a Trial Drug I was on, many moons ago, and I tried 3 or 4 tablets before one finally worked. So please don’t suffer in silence, just ask for help!

    Love Annette x

  • Hi Lee,

Glad you gound us, sorry you've needed to. I have a similar-ish diagnosis (ductal carcinoma with bone mets in spine, ribs, sternum,  pelvis). I'm however on different drugs - premenopause hormone blockers (zolidex and tamoxifen) whereas I think yours are postmenopausal? I was diagnosed in Nov and meeting my oncologist for the first time on Monday to discuss extra treatment. Anyways, I know sickness is a known side-effect of the hormone blockers I'm on, and I do get nausea but luckily it's not too bad. My GP has offered to prescribe anti-sickness drugs to me but I've declined at present. Might be worth mentioning to your treatment team or GP that it's troublesome for you and current drug not helping. Hope you find some relief

  • Hi Leelahoo

sorry that you’re on this particular site but a warm welcome to you and let’s hope a positive 2025!
I’m on palbociclib which is similar and an earlier version of ribociclib which I was given initially in 2023,  but my liver enzymes didn’t like it, so I was switched to palbociclib. I also take letrozole and monthly denosumab injections.

I make sure I take the palbociclib after a meal or a big breakfast and don’t usually feel sick by doing this, also, I drink water and teas a lot more now as I was advised by my nurse to try and drink 2.5 litres  day. I thought I’d be rushing to the loo all day! But actually I don’t at all. I rarely take an anti sickness tablet called metoclopramide. When I started the drugs I thought I needed to take an anti nausea tablet with the inhibitor but that’s not the case.

I would ask your breast care nurse or oncologist if the sickness persists.

  • Hi Starflower,  thank you for your advice I am going to switch to taking the Ribociclib in the evenings after I have eaten because I take mine on an empty stomach in the mornings.  Makes sense what you advise.  Many thanks everyone for your kind words.
