MP Kim Leadbeater came first in the ballot to put forward a bill and has decided to put forward a bill on assisted dying. I am personally in favour of this, having seen a close friend and a close relative both suffer immensely in the final weeks of cancer, and having incurable cancer myself. I hope I don’t need it and I certainly hope there’s focus on improving end of life care. My friend got stuck in hospital with intervention after intervention to try to create a way for her to feed and she didn’t feel she could say no. My brother in law couldn’t get into a hospice until it was almost too late, meanwhile care at home seemed impossible to join up. I don’t want to have to take myself off to Switzerland before I am ready, nor do I want my family to risk prosecution. I really hope they find a way through that also protects those who might be coerced.
Aye my friend I heard, blocking a honest debate, which has the support of the majority of people, with stalling tactics, because some politicians believe their more important than the wishes of the people, is contemptuous of free speech, parliament, and the majority of the population and the thousands of people this law will bring huge comfort too.
I am also very angry at the deliberate "talking out" tactics of the unelected chamber that is the House of Lords.
I understand it's possible for another attempt to be made in the next Parliament and if so this time the House of Commons will be able to overule the Lords if they try a similar tactic.
Let's hope so.

I'm not sure this didn't progress due to filibustering (waffling on needlessly to consume time and to advance towards the time limit for the debate).
I read on the BBC news that so many amendments were raised that there was no way they could all be discussed within the timeframe allocated to the debate.
I've no idea which is more accurate or true, the time wasting or the volume of amendments raised. Perhaps both are legit.
Well, given the amendments included requiring everyone to produce a negative pregnancy test, where everyone includes men, post menopausal women etc, you can form your own view.

I am a Macmillan volunteer.
I have metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer, in remission
Deliberately blocked by rich, entitled, usually hiding behind religion. They can afford quality care, which they know will never be available to the majority.
My last hope of an affordable dignified death closed down.
Those responsible should be ashamed, but they won't be. They simply despise the poor.
