Hi everyone .yesterday I met with my consultant regarding my PET scan and CT. I had a telephone call from CNS last week with the result telling me I had a complete response to the chemo which was good news . The consultant told me that there is no treatment going froward that they would see me every 2 months to take bloods and examine me . She also told me that I might be considered for stem cell transplant.. this was something I had more or less dismissed as I’m 69 and the little I know about the procedure it. Is extremely aggressive and can make you very ill . Does anyone have any thoughts they could share . I am thinking of meeting with the stem cell department just to find out more obviously I might not meet their criteria and the decision will be made for me . I am pleased with my results and am going to try and make the most of my time . My prognosis is that my lymphoma will return at some point but if I can get my energy and mindset to recover and get better I will do things that I enjoy and spend quality time with family and friends. I wish you all a good day Chris x
Hi Hilo (Chris), That’s just terrific you are a responder, me too! With reference to the stem cell transplant, there is no harm in finding out everything you can about the ins and outs at the Stem Cell Department. You don’t have to commit to anything until you have all the necessary information!
My prognosis was similar to yours, as I was told Malignant Melanoma usually returns. I had to have 3 monthly blood tests and scans. Chemo doesn’t work for melanoma and at the time of my diagnosis there was nothing else they could offer me! I ended up going on a Drug Trial and it worked.
Before you decide for or against SCT it may be worthwhile asking if there are any Drug Trials you could apply for! When I was diagnosed I was almost 64, I have just last week celebrated my 74th birthday!
Love Annette x
Thankyou for replying . My consultant said on Thursday she had looked into any trials and there weren’t any . I am trying to move forward now with hope and take a great comfort in the many reports of people like you who are beating the odds . Have a good day Chris x
