Pessimistic and no faith!

Morning all, hope you are all keeping well.

Had an appointment with my Oncologist yesterday, he authorised another 9 chemo's. But I haven't yet had a scan to see what effect the first round of chemo has had. He said on the basis of questions he's asked  me, my responses and the look of the area concerned is a clear indicator that the chemo has had some effect on the tumour. This is positive news right? But still I am mentally unable to accept it and remain pessimistic to safeguard myself. I believe this is because I have no faith and went through such a bad rollercoaster time when they were trying to find a diagnosis. I mean amongst other mishaps they completed a scan and advised me it wasn't cancer I had a bleed. Yeah right, I actually had a 15 cm tumour, how the hells bells do you miss that on a scan huh!! Now when they give me positive news, I struggle to accept it as I'm so scared they'll give me hope but then only take it away again down the line. Does anybody else feel this way?

Food shopping today and I think a cream cake is in order! Hope you all enjoy your day whatever it is you may be doing.

  • It looks lovely Eddie. It could have been taken in Morar or several other places in Scotland!!!

    Have a fantastic time!

    Love Annette x

Yesterday is History, Tomorrow is a Mystery, Today is a Gift!!!
  • Thank you Annette, It's amazing, lots of lovely beaches but I think Tougal  is still my fave, been taking it easy, doctors orders, at St Mary's MIU tomorrow, heart feels fine, so should get the ok to be a little more active, we had the neighbours round earlier, a couple, like my auntie, who were lovely, they invited us to dinner tomorrow, which was very nice of them, so will return the favour, it's a shame it's so far Annette as I think you would love it here, we flew from Exeter airport,

  • Good afternoon. It sounds like you've had the most wonderful time in scilly. And it sounds like you rested up and you needed that. Walking the beach at 10pm is wonderful. How lovely. And for the temperature to still be up, that's amazing. Hope the girls remembered to bring you some yummy supper. Are you still in Scilly or back home now?

Thanks for your well wishes. TV provided the honeymed dressings yes. You was right in that there was no difficulty in taking it off as they put something on it. Not sure yet how they're doing, I just keep getting told everything is going the  way it should and there's not much slough to come off now. As to the pain, I have now been prescribed Zomorph, the every 12 hours tablet. Only started them last night so can't really comment although today I have felt drowsy and tired and slept most of the day. A common side effect apparently. I'll let you know how goes it. I've been managing to eat up until today and I'm off the food again. I'll try have something soon. TV haven't yet been in touch re the debridement. I'm on the list apparently. PN Helen said she will chase it up if I haven't heard soon.

How are you and what news have you? Take good care X

  • Hi Marie,  and good afternoon to you, was at MIU this morning, heart "normal" so a little good news.

Nice to hear your TV nurse recommended the medihoney dressings but it would be good to meet them, and it's good there's little necrotic slough remaining, hope you see your  TV nurse soon, they will answer your questions

So they've put you on zomorph, always best with a big glass of water, are you OK swallowing them, Marie, zomorph usually starts giving pain relief in minutes, maybe have a word with Helen if pain not reducing soon, sorry to say you're right about feeling drowsy, hope they told you what side effects to look out for.

So sorry your off your food again, not surprised with the new meds, hopefully it's only for a short while as eating before taking them can be a big help with symptoms.

We are here till Sunday, Mandy has her scan on Tuesday,I've been very lazy since my time in hospital last week, saw nurse at MIU and my weeks rest has worked for my heart, the girls have been lovely, they went to Cornwall Tuesday and bought me a Chinese, for 5 hours old it was OK, Poppy got freshly cooked sausages,  the neighbours invited us to lunch yesterday, and will be having them round Saturday, so baking today, I did too much today too soon, should be ok in the morning.

I hope you manage to eat something later, and the meds start to provide pain relief soon, as always my thoughts and best wishes for you my friend, and hugs

  • Good morning. That's really good news about your heart. Really pleased for you. Glad to hear you are having a lovely time in scilly and especially that you're getting lots of rest and that it's done you lots of good. Awesome!!! I'm laughing about your 5 hours old Chinese lol ugh not sure about that one. Poppys sausages sound more appealing lol Still, it's the thought that counts. Hope your time with the neighbours went well and you had much fun. What did you bake?

So, not had a great few days. Tummy off, sick and not eating at all. However, started to pick up yesterday and had a meal yesterday evening. The Zomorph has kicked in and you're right the pain has gone. Not fully mind. I wake up at 4 every morning and have some pain. I take some liquid morphine and eventually go back to sleep. The other night mind I took the Zomorph as usual at 10 but was up all night in pain. It was as though they didn't work. I'm guessing you can get a dodgy one sometimes. I believe the honey dressings are doing their job. Well, the DNs say they are. The honey does turn to liquid when on and it runs out the bottom of the dressing and pools. It gets really sore ouch and Dave is having to clean it and redress. It's a bit of a pain. Still not heard from T. Been told I'm on the list and that I'll have probably healed anyway by the time they get round to seeing me lol

I'm going to pick up my parcel from m & s today and have a walk. I'm curious to know how my pain will be on mobilising and going out. You may remember it was so bad previously I was having to come back home. Grandson is here this week yayyyyyyyy. And Amy is cooking a roast so will hopefully be able to have some of that later.

How are you and what plans have you. Enjoy your day and take care X

  • Hi Marie,  and thank you, my heart is functioning a little better,  just got home in under 6 hours, was lovely, even the go-slow for the first week was nice, the curry was fine, didn't risk the rice, worst food you can eat re-heated, and if you want to take a sausage of Poppy your welcome to try

The neighbours were so young, why they invited us oldies around I don't know, we just made quiche, fruit crumble, fish pie and sausages,

I am so sorry to hear this Marie, zomorph is a strong painkiller and not without side effects, please let your medical team know everything, even if you think it's unimportant.

Good to hear your feeling a little better, and eating, and the pain relief is working, understandable it doesn't give 24 hour relief, zomorph needs to be taken with care, better to start with a little less than you need than too much. Marie, I have no idea why the zomorph didn't work that night, definitely need to tell your team.

The medi-honey dressings are fab, as I said I've only ever met 1 TV nurse in all my years, so long as she's on your team, that's what's important, good to hear nurse Dave is seeing to your dressings, I've heard he's good and surprisingly cheap.

I'm  pretty certain you've been for your walk, how did you get on this time, hope you took it easy and paced yourself and didn't have the problems of last time.

That's FAB, grandson visiting for a whole week, and a homecooked roast by your favourite chef, and I hope some M+S yummies for dessert.

I'm ok. busy few weeks, all medical, Hospice tomorrow for counselling and finished  my EOL forms so gave one to my PCT, and Tuesday is Mandys scan & consultation and I have 4 appointments, yippee, Wednesday is clear, was going to be our wedding day, but looking forward to it next summer. I'm in Nottingham on Thursday, Emma is seeing her friends, will go to Maggies for a couple of hours. I hope your walk went well and you enjoyed a little dinner, take care my friend.

  • Good morning. Glad to hear you're home safe and sound. Hope you're not too tired and that you're able to rest. I think the neighbours inviting you round and the fact you're oldies is nothing to do with anything. They just know you're all beautiful humans lol I bet they loved your baking. Fish pie!! I love it.

PN Helen is coming tomorrow for a Zomorph catch up. I will discuss with her how it's been. Overall the pain has subsided which is great. Just the odd glitch. And yes I'm suffering side effects but they're not winning yet. My walk didn't go well I'm afraid. I got out the car, had no pain and within walking through m & s main doors the awful pain kicked in instantaneously. On walking back to the car and sitting back down it went as quickly as it came. Puzzles me as to why this is happening but I'll speak to Helen. I'll try again tomorrow as I will be going to get my PICC line dressing changed.

Roast was so nice and I managed to eat some. She made homemade rice pudding for afterwards but unfortunately I couldn't manage that. Hope your counseling goes well today. Give Mandy a big love from me for tomorrow. I hope all is good. Sorry it should have been wedding day on Wednesday. That must make you feel a little sad. But you're right, you shall have a beautiful summer wedding instead. Maggie's will be good on Thursday. The DNs have just been to do my dressings. As it is healing well they've dropped a day and will now be calling Monday and Thursday. It's a good sign huh.  Enjoy your day and take care X

  • Hi Marie,  I'm glad to hear the zomorph is helping a little more, but these glitches are a concern, not something I have come across, so good to hear Helen's coming tomorrow, hopefully she can sort them out, remember to tell her everything, no matter how unimportant you think it is, fingers crossed Helen's got answers, it must make you think twice about going out, I hope your PICC line visit goes well, both the journey and re-dressing, that your DNs are happy to reduce visits is good news, they must be really happy your healing well

Amy was on top form in the kitchen, that's great, as is you eating some,  hope you saved some rice pudding for later, I know it's your favourite.

Will give Mandy a cuddle from you for tomorrow's scan, counselling went ok, Jo got me to open up, just heard today, the woman who kicked me off the exercise groups has been sacked, oh dear, what a shame, she wasn't a people person, I think I mentioned, her replacement will call me this week, and we're thinking of bringing the wedding forward to spring,  best wishes for tomorrow.

    love Eddie xx

  • Hi Marie, I hope you are ok, it's unusual to not hear from you for three days, and  I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried, I do hope I'm worrying for no reason and you're busy with family or maybe gone out on a little trip, if it was my PM, then please ignore it, the last thing I wanted to do was make you feel uncomfortable. take care

    love Eddie xx

  • Good morning. Bless you I am fine lovely. I just haven't been able to get on here. They sent out an email explaining the system was down. Was you not affected? It seems okay today. Thank you for your concern you're too kind.

Not too bad here. Still not feeling the greatest mind. And you're right I have no desire to go out at all, which is not good. It's the usual tummy and bowel. I have had constipation, took the laxatives and now gone the other way. Generally my tummy feels off, it's the not able to eat that bothers me. But I try every day and took your advice in eating small more often. I'm just taking each day as I find it and hoping I get some let up.

I spoke to PN Helen re the pain glitches with the Zomorph. She advised that in the night when I wake at 4 in pain to take a shot of the liquid morphine I was on which is what I've been doing. It's helped and I've dropped back to sleep. She said if it gets worse they will up the Zomorph, tweak it a little to see if helps. About the pain when I mobilise she suggested it may be because I'm inactive so that when I do do something the pain is more severe than it would usually be. She suggested I make better use of the wheelchair which I'd already considered anyway seen as though the pain subsides when I sit. It's better to carry on in the chair huh than give up altogether. I'll try this. The burns are still much improved but not yet fully improved. Still can't start any treatment until such happens so no change there.

We are looking at going away not next week but the week after. To the new forest for a week. I have my reservations been mindful how I have been feeling but would really love to get away and think it would do me good all things considered. Watch this space.

Anyway enough of me. How are you? That's interesting that woman getting the heave ho lol Good that's what I say, she shouldn't treat people like that. How did yours and Mandy's appointments go? Well I hope. Big love to you both and enjoy your day X
