Ever wonder if anyone famous is on here?

I have Stage 4 lung cancer, so whenever Johnny Irwin or Esther Rantzen is in rhe news,   I find myself following their stories closely.

They seem to be doing well which gives me some hope.

Have just watched Esther's daughter on Loose Women, which was very interesting. Esther has joined Dignitas apparently.  I would also like a choice of how and when to die.

In this country pets have dignified peaceful deaths, but we don't.  Its not right.

  • Chris Hoy on chemo. Wish him all the best.

  • Indeed, cancer is a true leveller. King, Olympian, rich or poor. That is why this site is important, we all have our struggles and worries hopefully anyone who needs support feels able to join with anominity and gain support from others going through the same

best wishes to all experiencing the journey of cancer

  • Hello Youngman, change your profile, you were young when we first started to converse, I think you are considerably older now, as am I !!!

when I see a name from the past it does get me ruminatiing  on what we have seen pass us.

    Good luck.

  • Chris Hoy in the news today advising 2-4 years and the prostrate cancer has spread to shoulder, pelvis, hip, ribs and spine :-(  It must be hard for these celebrities.  They must feel compelled to share so it comes from them and not a leak to the press.  But we all know the "reliability" of a prognosis.  25% of people on the same treatment (developed in 2011) as Hoy are still alive 10 years later.

  • I think if you are known in public it’s hard not to share, because the changes in appearance, stamina etc can be so obvious, and incorrect speculation can be more damaging than the truth. I was surprised Sir Chris described himself as terminal rather than incurable, and that he also placed a timescale on it. No idea what the actual treatment is but hope it keeps him as well as possible for as long as possible. Desperately sad for his young children, his wife has MS.

  • Hi Mmum and Coddfish, so sad to hear about Chris Hoy, and awful to think he had to come out with his prognosis, I have prostate cancer "treatable?" and you can live with it with no outwardly symptoms for some time and Chris being an athlete will extend this, there are a few treatments for prostate cancer with metastasis to the bones, sadly Mmum, bone mets change everything,

  • Do you think there might be 'pressure' felt by celebrities/famous people to share publicly? Are they expected to act as ambassadors for cancer, because lots of people follow them? It must be very hard to keep your diagnosis private, being in the public eye.

I admire Esther Rantzen for speaking out about assisted dying. Perhaps more notice is being taken of her, because she's in the same position we are in, and she's speaking from experience.
