Art for art's sake

I was wondering if anyone feels they might benefit from being part of an art group specifically for those here. I'm an artist, though I have to admit to you that I've produced absolutely nothing for ages due to being ill and in hospital, not having anywhere to exhibit for aeons and generally being extremely knackered out most of the time. But then I started thinking maybe I could do something positive about it. I've worked within what's called the 'Arts in Health' sphere and done a lot with things like colour therapy. I'd also like to say that you don't have to be rich to make art. I've done a whole exhibition made from recycled materials. It's all about taking yourself to another place for a while and having a bit of messy fun. No judgemental rubbish or anything like that. And if you don't think you're able to draw anything that looks remotely like what it's supposed to look like, well, that doesn't matter either. I think that maybe for starters you might like to message me if you are interested and then I'll try and work out a little programme. Just for us. Let me know what you think. Rainy X

  • A lovely picture by British artist Glynn Macey who lives down in Penzance.

Hope this cheers you all up as we're deep in gloom and greyness here in North Norfolk.

  • I like that, it makes me think of summer.

  • For all the newbies here who might not have seen this thread - I've been a bit quiet of late - but if any of you are interested in trying your hand at something a bit arty, then have a read through the start of this thread and message me if you'd like to give it a go. You can make art out of all sorts - packaging, fabrics, buttons and so on. It needn't cost much. Colour is good for you. Immerse yourself in it and take yourself somewhere away from your worries. Here's one I made earlier... a lot earlier. Acrylic on wood panel with pressed leaf.

      'Skinny Dipper'

       'My Mother's Quilt'

Embossed print with packaging, bits of paper doileys, stamping, hand-painting and old buttons and ribbons from Mum's button box.

  • Skinny Dipper a bit special I reckon.

  • Hi Raine

Thank you for this thread, what a good idea. I’d like to have a go please. Is there a theme?

  • Love these Raine, particularly the skinny dipper! So evocative of warmer climes and it’s got the aboriginal art quality which I love. You’re so talented!

  • Hi, If you friend and message me with your e-mail I will send you some project ideas. Click on my image and connect. In the past, whenever I ran workshops, I'd always start with 'Sea and Sky' - rather tried and tested, but it's a good one in that most people have holiday snaps by the ocean, so you can think about all the good times you had and let that motivate you to play with the colours. There are no rules, just the desire to play and lose yourself. Start collecting interesting bits and bobs. Read through the stuff on this thread and what I'll send through and have a go. You can send stuff to me if you like or post on this thread. Or not. There is no obligation to do so. Just have a bit of messy fun.  Rainie x

  • Thank you. Glad you like them. I am very into aboriginal art and did a whole load of work inspired by it. Particularly like their age-old tradition of incorporating messages into their paintings, with symbols and instructions only they know how to truely read. Fascinating to me. I made a load of maps of where I live based on this idea. If you like that too, then you might want to use that as a good starting point. Enjoy.  Rainie x

  • Hi Raineday

Thank you so much for the challenge. I have taken the theme of sea and thought about what you were saying about being in that moment. A couple of years ago we went to Devon and there was a tiny beach a stones throw from where we were staying. One particular warm sunny day we went swimming, the sea was so calm and there was a gentle swell which I felt all around me. The water was a clear deep teal. I have played around with the blue and green to try and recreate that feeling of being surrounded by this beautiful teal undulating sea. Don’t think I’ve quite got there but I’ve loved the process. Just used paper so very crinkly but am going to invest in some watercolour paper. Hope you like my efforts. Mouse my daughters cat decided to help

  • It looks beautifully calm Heart eyes cat
