Art for art's sake

I was wondering if anyone feels they might benefit from being part of an art group specifically for those here. I'm an artist, though I have to admit to you that I've produced absolutely nothing for ages due to being ill and in hospital, not having anywhere to exhibit for aeons and generally being extremely knackered out most of the time. But then I started thinking maybe I could do something positive about it. I've worked within what's called the 'Arts in Health' sphere and done a lot with things like colour therapy. I'd also like to say that you don't have to be rich to make art. I've done a whole exhibition made from recycled materials. It's all about taking yourself to another place for a while and having a bit of messy fun. No judgemental rubbish or anything like that. And if you don't think you're able to draw anything that looks remotely like what it's supposed to look like, well, that doesn't matter either. I think that maybe for starters you might like to message me if you are interested and then I'll try and work out a little programme. Just for us. Let me know what you think. Rainy X

  • I thought it was a kingfisher perched on a post. Must go to Specsavers.

Wasn't expecting an art teacher on here, do you do detentions for misbehaviour?

  • Dave, try clicking on the image to make it bigger, then you'll save on glasses. I'm not an art 'teacher' in the way I think you mean, but am an artist and if you think you could benefit from trying your hand at a bit of something arty and creative, then send me a 'private' message. I can send you stuff to do. I appreciate though that many just don't have the energy to spare and it depends on where you are . We're all so very different.

Art is therapeutic. You don't have to be able to draw in a realistic way in order to participate and enjoy it. [if that's what you think]. It can help with depression and anxiety too by providing a good focus and helping us immerse ourselves in something bright and colourful and provides time away from just thinking about cancer all the time. It can also help us express the fears and worries we all have by getting them out of our systems and onto a sheet of paper.

What sort of misbehaviour did you have in mind? Am intrigued.

  • Hi Rainie, up until this week Sunderland Art Gallery was part of the museum, now a new Art centre has been setup not just display galleries but 39 studios to encourage local artist, where they can work, display and sell, there is also a room for budding artists to be trained, far better than the old art college and in the city center.

  • Thank you for your reply Rainie. I was always in trouble at school and indeed my first foray on this forum earned me a telling off by Ellie and Moi.

So in anticipation of detention, I just wondered how I would be disciplined.

  • Hi this might interest people in the group. In the  Express yourself forum there is a post called Winter Picture Festival 2022.

Go take a look, and let’s post some festive pictures xx

  • Here's another seasonal picture. It reminds me of Renoir, but is by Paul Gustave Fischer:  ' A Winters' Day, Copenhagen' painted in 1888. I think the composition is especially eye-catching. Such a great snapshot of life. Who has snow at the moment? Let's have some pictures please if you can manage it - no risk taking though - try snapping through the window.  Hope you are all keeping warm? Rainie x

  • How can people be so talented. Wonderful.

  • Hi, I just love the way this picture takes your eye from the lady at the front, on a journey through to the rest of the piece. Lowry gives me the same feeling, as if you could step into the picture! We had snow yesterday afternoon but then later in the day it turned to drizzle. Tonight it is -7 brrrrr! Stay warm everyone!
