Hi everyone, I don't post much as I never feel I have much to offer. But i would like to ask a question . I have untreatable bilateral lung cancer. I don't appear to have any symptoms (I have plenty for my other maladies) I have applied for attendance allowance on advice from my gp (she brought me the DS1500 form) That seems to imply she thinks my time is limited. As I live alone I feel the need to get my affairs in order as much as possible. I always thought doctors won't ever give a prognosis, but is that true? Thanks for reading.
Many thanks for lovely responses. The problem with the cold is because my flat has such a poor heating system, which really needs, but won't get, completely renewing. And also, because I may have an underactive thyroid (one symptom is feeling cold apparently) I am due a blood test for that next week. I have bought extra portable heaters but still feel cold. I am due to look at another flat this Thursday which looks to be tons better, so please keep your fingers crossed for me I have a community support worker who has helped with several issues but he is shortly to finish. My opthalmologist rang today and seemed shocked that I had never been followed up nor referred to oncology. I got the same reaction from the lovely pain clinic doctor.who I am also waiting for a f2f appointment with. Once the current crop of appointments are done I will see where I am and then get on to Respiratory and ask for a review. Part of the difficulty I have is that with multiple health issues when I get symptoms it is not always easy to tell their source. Is the pain in my arm frozen shoulder or something else, likewise the aching pain deep in my jaw. It is so difficult.
Hi minimoo,
Hope the next flat is better and you can go for it. Also that your support worker is replaced by someone equally supportive. Given what you say the other specialists have said in terms of their suprise at you not being seen by oncology, i think you need to speak up - you strike me as someone who doesnt want to make a fuss - but sometimes you need to ask for what you need,. Surely your GP as the person with overall care for you should be pressing for some sort of response re your situation. Good luck.
Hi Minimoo, I find it astonishing you haven't seen an oncologist. You are not 'bothering' anyone, that is their job.
Please speak to your GP and ask for the support you need. Also let him know about any symptoms you have as he is the one in charge of your care, he should be organising appointments for anyone you need to see.
I hope the move to another flat will solve the issue with the cold. Also if you need further heaters, social services are the ones to speak to. In this day and age you need to be ProActive in getting what you need. Please call your GP asap!! Let us know how you get on!
Love Annette x
Hi Minimoo, I have read your original post from last year, where you have said that you are untreatable. This will explain why you haven’t seen an oncologist as his job is to treat cancer. If there is no treatment or any further treatment, then your care falls to your GP. Any worries or concerns give him a ring.
I do hope the new flat works out for you. I will keep my fingers crossed for you xx
Thanks for explaining. It is all such uncharted territory I just don't know what to expect. But this group is so helpful and I am learning.
Wow, how about that! Phone call this morning to say I have the flat (subject to credit check but that won't be a problem) I am still up in the clouds right now. The flat is sandwiched between a co-op on one side and a complex including my gp surgery, chemist and a library on the other side. It really couldn't be better.
Minimoo I am so happy for you. That sounds just perfect. I am sure you will be very happy there xx
What a great result Moo. Don't forget to send the flat warming invites out. I never seem to get one!
It has taken a while but I am now in my new flat, and I love it. The only flaw (there's always one isn't there) is that I still have no phone or broadband having been let down by Sky.It should have all been done on 14 July but they eventually admitted they have no idea when they can fix me up 'due to serious technical issues'. So no phone means no care alarm. Companies make a big thing about caring for the extremely vulnerable. Excuse me while I laugh in disbelief. I have only managed to get here now by forking out £50 plus monthly £12 for a dongle. Sunday we will be going to spend a week with my brother who lives on the south coast. I am so looking forward to some fresh sea air. My brother says I can ride pillion on his scooter. Happy days.
