once  I renew and get my passport I have decided to do more, travel and do things I always wanted to do,without worrying if it's going to kill me.

I've been too worried about doing things, now to hell with it, Life has to be lived, Do more life:)

I hope this gives people more courage to do likewise.

I've  Learned you can't worry about the inevitable.

  • I travelled with my mobility scooter which uses a dry cell battery on a pando cruise 2 years ago. I had an ordinary cabin, well not that ordinary because we had an outside cabin that looked out over the bow of the ship so we could see exactly where we were going. I was treated exceptionally well at all times.

My mobility scooter breaks down into 5 parts so when we went on an excursion, it fitted in below the coach easily. If it's a mobility scooter which doesn't collapse I'm not sure how that works with excursions, maybe there is a ship's wheelchair she could use but of course then she'll need someone with her who could push her or maybe she can self propel?

  • That's fabulous! Thank you so much for that link!

Mum has MS, the type that slowly gets worse, and she loves her holidays. So she's been doing as many far flung places as she can while she can fly. She can feel she's getting to the end of her flying days as the anxiety is becoming crippling, and so had always planned to go cruising once flying was out of the question. However she'd got in touch with a few different companies, and all had said they did not accept mobility scooters on board the ship itself. They'd happily carry it so she could go on excursions, but she wouldn't be allowed to ride it around the ship for health and safety reasons. Mum would never make it walking around the ship, which meant she thought her holiday plans were out of the window and she'd never be able to go anywhere again. So has been quite depressed about it all.

I sent her that link last night, and she was straight on, investigating and reading all night, a bit of her excitement and hope back again! So thank you very much!

Dear I’m so glad your mum has been invigorated by the info, I don’t have many computer skills but I’m a expert Googler ! And have insomnia

  • Lol

Mum is pretty good on both fronts usually, so I can only guess that she had a couple of specific cruises in mind, and after being knocked back by them, gave up. She's giving up more and more easily on things as the years go on and things get worse. It's turned her into a martyr, which isn't fantastic and really gets on our wick. So this is excellent all round.

  • I have used a mobility scooter onboard a Marella cruise or Royal Caribbean I cant remember which. I have now got a powerchair and am going on a Celebrity cruise in September. I havent yet filled in the health questionnaire for them as only booked today but the travel agent didnt say anything about mobility scooters not being allowed and I notice the questionnaire asks for dimensions of wheelchair or mobility scooter.

I hope your mam can get sorted x

  • Hey Elliekate,

Thanks for that, I've sent her the links to Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises as well. Marella could only guarantee you could leave the ship if you could walk off by yourself. So that would be a massive disappointment if you couldn't go and see anything. Whereas Royal and Celebrity offered assistance and transfers at no extra costs.

  • Hi Lass

I wonder if that's new with Marella although last year when we travelled with them I was in a manual wheelchair and had my husband to push me up and down the gang ways that must be the difference.

I hope your mam sees something she likes in the details you've sent xx

  • Sounds like you might be from the same area as my Mum is.... The North East? Not heard many people call their Mum Mam, but that's what my Mum called my Granny.

And Marella can't guarantee it, but it doesn't mean you can't. From what they have written, it sounds like some of the ports don't have great ramps for disembarking, so in bad weather etc it's tough if you can't propell yourself. But others, there's no issues at all.

But that's three companies I've sent her that will take scooters, so she should def find something she likes for the future! Cocktail
