In a triumph of optimism over experience, I have just bought 2 indoor plants. I have been inspired by those of you with green fingers, who

love your gardens. I had orchids that lasted for years and years, in my studio with ceiling to floor windows, but am otherwise the kiss of death to plants. Feeling excited! xx

  • Do feel free to join in the gardening thread. Indoor and outdoor plants are all welcome! Lol

    What plants did you get?

I'll need to update my garden's progress. Just need to get out of the slump I'm in. No motivation or smiles here recently. Hoping Sat helps.

    Xx

I just liked your post, . It hardly feels right - I’m sorry you’re feeling so low. I do think part of the joy of gardening is that we can enjoy it at the time and the fruits of it are there to enjoy later too when we can’t find our mojo. I hope that at least you are able to enjoy looking at your garden.

I love houseplants. I had an orchid reflower this year. It’s beautiful and is in my bathroom now, brightening up the place. I have several plants that I’ve kept going for years. Among them is a lemon geranium half way up the stairs on a windowsill that I rub as I go past and a huge fern type plant in my living room that was here when I moved in 13 years ago. My daughters have joined the current fad for cacti and have several each.

What did you get, ? Don’t forget to feed them. It makes all the difference

    xx

Sitting having chemo and reading all your postings.

Terrible sleet here but hoping to get out in the garden over the weekend.  Need to get tomato seeds planted and in the greenhouse.

There’s a gardening thread...? I have to feed them...??? The lovely lady in the flower shop said you can let them dry out & should water them from underneath. Ones a trailing plant & the other one is a cactus, love seeing them on my way up & down stairs. We have very little natural light anywhere else. I’ll go to the garden centre & investigate plant food. Normally I just go for a bacon sandwich.

Lass, I’m really looking forward to meeting you tomorrow. I’m not surprised you’re feeling low, you have more than your fair share to deal with, but yes, we need to find ways to help you through this slump. You do so much to help other people xx

And yes, houseplants do need feeding.  There’s a whole world of new ways to spend money waiting for you Joy

I hope the chemo goes smoothly . Get those tomatoes planted

  • Hi everyone

I'm not an avid fan of house plants, I have a couple of orchids and a few cacti.

I think most people here are from a time when we kept rubber plants and Swiss Cheese Plants (monster deliciosa). But did you know that you can eat the fruit of the Swiss Cheese plant? They originated in Mexico and have been brought around the world. I came across the fruit of it in the main market in Funchal, Madeira, a couple of years ago. It is delicious when ripe, described as tasting like a cross between a banana and a pineapple. I'm going to try to insert a photo but if it doesn't work, just google swiss cheese plant fruit.
