Well, we're getting into that time of year when gardens need a bit more TLC than they've had over the last few months. So I figured it was time for a new thread for the year.

Before Christmas an AMAZING friend paid for me to finally get a fence built round my back yard. This means it is now secure and I can make the kitchen garden I've always wanted! It's all very exciting for me! So I've bought compost, planters, canes, food, and seeds! Then I spotted some little plants, and bought 2 of them too.

So I've just been outside and planted up the 2 plants that arrived - a normal high yield blueberry, and a pink blueberry that apparently has a different taste to it. I've also got some black raspberry seeds soaking, as they need soaked for 24 hours then put in the fridge for 2 months, before being grown, then planted outside a couple of months later. I've then got 10 types of herb, and 30 types of veg to plant out through the year too.

Not tried growing veg before, so it's all new and a massive learning experience for me. But I'm looking forward to it, and it gives me a reason to go outside, as well as a nice space to go outside to!

Anyone else got anything new going on in their gardens this year?

Lass - homegrown cucumbers are soo much nicer! They have proper flavour.

Garden has suffered a little due to weekend away and no

Watering. However, have sat out a lot and just looked at nature

Which is a real tonic. Two ripe cherry tomatoes is my total veg haul.

Ooh tomato and cucumber fresh from the plant. Hard to beat.

My pots appear to be over now but the garden is still looking good. I have had to trim back several overgrown shrubs and perennials and the deadheading is never ending but there’s lots still in flower even into the dog days of August. The compost bin is overflowing mind you.

  • just thought I'd tag you here, as if you love gardening then you might like to tell us about yours some? Help distract your mind a bit when it's starting to spiral.

As for me, I'm thinking about braving the weather to see if there's anything ready to be picked! Fingers crossed, and I'll continue this thread once I'm back.....

Not a bad wee haul today. Def worth getting wet for. Lol. That's 1 type of cucumber and 6 types of tomato!

As for the front, weed fest at the min. Before my back went I had thought I'd get out Thrre and weed, then work out what plant I have where, how it's going to grow, and if I can put some matching/contrasting bulbs around them. Got some more tulips for my lily tree bulb pots, as they were REALLY disappointing this year. I only got 1 that flowered. So we shall see what happens, what I buy, what I plan. Space is too small for more pots, so need to make the most of what I've got! (though I am considering hanging things from my fence..... Though I need to grow my trombone squash plant up the fence next year to allow it to grow healthily. So we shall see what happens! Lol

  • Heya

Sounds like you've got a wonderful set of gardens on your hands! I've got some butterflies on my back fence too! Hmmm, I've got two spare hanging hook things out back that might need some chimes on them of some sort! Thanks for the idea! I've also got a bright metal peacock out back too. I don't know if you've heard of the company 'Olive and Sage'? But I feel you might like some of their things if you've anymore space anywhere..... Or can make space anywhere! Lol

This is my first time growing veg. Beginning of the year I finally got my back yard fenced in and made secure, which meant I could put things out there without fear of kids pulling things up or things getting nicked. I live in a terraced house, so it's two small yards that I've got, maybe 8' by 10 or 12'. So everything is container planted. If you're ever bored enough to read through the thread, you'll see both of my gardens being built and developed. So the front is for flowers and the back is for edibles.... Though there are two lime trees, a kafir and a finger or caviar, out front and if the hibiscus doesn't survive then there will be a cherry tree too! Lol.

I really do need to look up pruning care for the things out front, as we're getting to the season for it. But I need to list them all first, and I'm not going out in the rain again today. I've no idea what's out there, as I just buy what I like then see how it goes. Lol. Speaking of, my fig tree I got as a stick at the beginning of the year? Taller than me now! It's insane how this thing has grown!

  • Heya Flippen,

Sounds like the weeds had got tangled up in your head. Bit of gardening, few good words, bit of support, and those weeds have withered away and set your fight free.

    Long may it continue!
