So, Bluebell suggested a thread like this might be of interest, so I figured I'd kick it off. I've mentioned in a couple of places that I'm a professionally trained baker and patissier, and I LOVE to talk about baked goods. I have SO MANY recipe books, and haven't made enough things from them all yet. The problem is, I have no-one to feed them to, and I'm trying to lose weight! So not really a good plan to bake like I want to and then eat it all..... lol
So if you need a recipe, have a problem with a recipe, just want to talk about an amazing cake you had, go for it!
Just continuing on the chat from elsewhere....
Bluebell, I lived and worked for three weeks in Iceland and 3 weeks in France as part of my training. BEST experiences I've ever had I think! I discovered so many new products and techniques, tasted so many new foods - it was amazing! I ever got to teach them some new products and gave them some new ideas too. I introduced scones, bakewell tart, and treacle tart to Iceland. And truffles to the little bakery in France I was in as a way to use up their crumb wastage.
But the different flavours of the breads and the cakes was what stood out. I don't know about the rest of the country, but Leeds is definitely missing a good and proper cake shop. I've found a good bread shop, but that's one in the whole of Leeds. And there are no cheese shops either! There's too much convenience and too many supermarkets with the cheap bread and cakes that are full of the cheapest ingredients and substitutes, as well as additives and preservatives.
The difference even between the fast and 'cheat' bread I made at college and the supermarket stuff was night and day. The proper stuff I made, wasn't even comparable.
I did a competition while at college, and I came up with a rhubarb and spelt loaf that was totally unlike anything else you get..... anywhere. Then I made some amazing lemon and coriander rolls, and some cheese and mustard rolls. OMG, those cheese and mustard rolls....... I need to make them again. They were outstanding!
JOANIE!!!!!!!
SO pleased to see you around again! I hope it's still the new TV package that has you occupied and nothing more untoward?

Hi Lass
Ah what a lovely warm welcome thanks Lass x Right firstly apologies for not been on so much Yes at first it was my passionate affair with my Tivo box and Netflix that had me on the missing list, but it was also problems with my neck and wrist that made it painful to type so I stayed off the PC I had an unfortunate event at my scan where it took 5 attempts to get in the needle and all the veins kept popping! My whole arm ended up black and blue and nerve damage in my right wrist talk about bad luck also on the same day the dye went against me and my whole body seemed to go on fire and it left me gasping and in bits BUT they got brilliant pictures! LOL
Bottom line results were mixed the cancer in my bones and lungs were stable but a bit of progression in the liver but not classed as progression because the growth was not big enough so now I will be back in 2 months for the next scan instead of 3, I actually feel well in myself although the Letrozole after almost 7 months has decided to give me horrible side effects and I have developed severe bone pain in my face and throughout my body it just flares up now and again they think it is a virus but to be on the safe side I was set for a DEXA scan last week so waiting for the results of that oh and if all that was not enough they have put me on Vitamin D which is fine except they are giving me side effects to add to my list of side effects LOL Oh Lass pass me the bubbly!
Love Joanie xx
Thanks Bluebell. Now bearing in mind that I'm a bloke - Are Joanie & Bluebell one and the same?
Phil xx
Yes Phil. Bluebell is her username and Joanie is her RL name.
Bluebell, there's a thread called "Where are you" that you should look at. Flamingo was worried and looking for you about a week ago.
Excellent that they got brilliant pics, but sorry you had to go through all of that!!! How are you feeling now?
And I guess a tentative YAY! is in order for the lack of progression of the cancer? Are you feeling yay - without the side effects of course?
Vitamin D side effects..... explosion from the rear roughly 24 hours after taking them? Lol

Hi Lass
Yes, I am very happy with the results as I told them that when I think back to how I was feeling last March I never would have believed I would be in their office in the September feeling as well as I do! So it's a big YAY!! Come to think of it is a YAY! every morning I wake up LOL and the side effects from the Letrozole have to be endured I know they would change the drug if I wanted them to as they are really kind regarding side effects and understanding but it seems to be doing its job the worst part is the sick stomach followed by the hip problems it is causing I have to come down the stairs sideways in the morning and limp around but it usually wears off by about 3 pm so it is doable give me time and I will adapt I usually do!
No the side effects from the VD I get is digestive really bad acid reflux the caps haveE171 as a colourant which goes against me and its in most of my meds so the extra med just tipped the side effects up a notch Lord not an explosion! Have I that to look forward to? I am not on it very long my number was 43 but they want the levels over 50! Considering after the head radiation I stayed in the shade for most of the summer I was surprised the levels were so high.
Love Joanie xx
I'm afraid to say that the Daily Mail is wrong. Lol.
My RAI seems to have stopped my body from being able to either make or store - or both - Vitamin D. I got down to low double figures before it was spotted, and it was only spotted because I specifically asked for it to be checked after learning it seems to be a common issue with thyroid cancer patients.
So I was given one of those massive doses of like 32,000 IU each month for 3 months, and I had a real issue 24 hours after taking the pill. Once that was finished they tested me and I was ok, but 3 months later I was down to the low 20's again. This time I was given a massive dose to get me back up, then a maintenance dose. A few months later my dose was doubled, and then a couple of months ago another half again was added. So I'm now on 2,400 IU a day to get me over the 75 my lab says is the lowest for normal.
But each time my dose was changed, explosions for a few days as my body adjusted to the new dose then it was all good. Lol
Might be a silly question Bluebell, but I take it a hot water bottle on the hip, or any sort of oral or topical pain killer doesn't ease it faster? What about mint tea, or ginger biscuits for the sickness? Sorry, you've prob tried all of that.
And for your acid, can they give you a PPI at all?

Or possibly, Lass, you could try magnesium. I mention this as my friend was found to be vitamin D deficient but instead of taking the vitamin she takes a magnesium supplement and this has sorted her out. The magnesium helps the body absorb vitamin D.
Thanks Daloni! I'll mention that to the GP on Wed and see what he thinks.
