Diagnosed with cancer anyone else here from Spain. Anyone else considering returning to UK for treatment?
Hi Paul S1 how did it all go on feb 5th. I haven't been on for a while so only just saw your post! My 3rd chemo was delayed a week as my white blood cell count was too low. I had it yesterday and had to inject myself today to boost my white blood cells. Got my final chemo in 3 weeks then back to the surgeon along wth more chemo. Will be like you as all treatment is scheduled for just over a year. Are you on private medical cover? Hope you are feeling ok and good news that you are in remission! Take care
Fortunately i am covered by spanish health system as my wife is autonimo here so i piggy back off her ,all was fine on the 5th i have a further 9% reduction so all good , also reduced my steroids so hoping to lose a little weight thank you for asking
I had a spell on the injections for white blood cells too ,and got the flu like symptoms that i was warned about
Hi Purblemurph, same here for the colon cancer.. but I was able to have it removed, along with 17 inches of my colon and 14 nodes, which were all clear thank goodness. I live in Malaga, and was treated privately, but today I have finally managed to talk to the ss doctor about the vaccine as its SO slow here.. They have only just started giving the over 80's the jab.. I asked him if as a private patient how would they know about my medical history (Iam also registered with the social security) anyway he said we would be contacted but I had to bring them in informes so that they can update my medical records... as they run into the 100's so far, not sure that'll happen! Even then I doubt that I at 62 years old will be on the list to get a jab before the end of the summer... what's it like where you live?
Thanks Z. Recovery has been great and I feel better now than I have really since this all started. Now back on Capecitabine/Xeloda + a short transfusion of Avastin every 3 weeks. Because if the long break off meds the metastases had a chance to grow back a bit so now keen to knock them back down to where I was in November.
but honestly I’m really enjoying feeling so well.
Hi DD
Not heard anything yet. I think it’s not been a great start for Spain but my region seems to be stepping it up now as they are very keen to actually have a tourist trade here this summer on the Costa Blanca!
They seem to be doing Over 80s and announced they’re starting teachers and other groups who are exposed to many people in their work.
Ive seen a proposed list of the programme by stage/ groups. My category would either be Those with conditions that make them vulnerable/ high risk Or the next one down which is plain old 50-57 age range. Both seem like they will be months away and I have no idea which one I would be placed in. Not holding my breath..
I need to visit my centro de salud and check what they have down for me.
L
Hiya, sorry I didn’t answer before I’ve been having a shedload of tests (again!)... yeah I called my centro salud to try and find out what the situation was with regards to the vaccine... obviously I’ve got history and my man has asthmatic. TBH I do t think they really know what’s happening... he just said you’ll be called when it’s your turn... my issue (which I explained to him) is that my treatment and operations have all been done privately, so no cross over of information. He told me to take the informes to my doctor, which at the moment is important as we can’t see a doctor face to face doh!
Anyway that aside I’m really happy to hear that your feeling better in your self dispite all this covid shit going on! Take care abs keep in touch (we seem to be few and far between here!) x
Hi.
I only just joined the forum. I'm on a small Canary Island. I won't go back to the UK because I have most of my support network here and the University Hospital on Tenerife has a great reputation, but I think logistics might get tricky if I need chemo. Planning to cross that bridge when I come to it.
I'm vaccinated, at last, so one less worry.
Sheila
Hi Sheila, sorry not to have answered before… been going through a zillion tests … anyway how are you doing? It’s enough going through all this stuff without the volcano shit too! Did you get any more info about treatment yet? Keep in touch, it’s hard here without the help you seem to get in the UK…. ️
Hi Starlady
Are you living in la palma? I am in living in Gran Canaria, the news reports of the volcanoes is so sad to see,. I have met people here who have come from furteventura for tbeir treatment and can totally understand how it makes your journey that extra more crazy.
Sending positive vibes!
Big hugs
X
