My daughter finished her treatment of BEACOPP in May of last year and thankfully, she is making positive steps forward, however, this week we got another shock. During her treatment, she was given injections as part of the therapy. After each injection, she had excruciating pain in both knees. This was dismissed at the time. In March of this year, her consultant referred her for an MRI to see if anything showed up. So considering that was 6 months ago, she was only invited to see an orthopaedic doctor this week who has informed her that the treatment has caused her knees to crumble. The X-ray and MRI show that her knees resemble that of an Aero chocolate bar and that she needs new knees - she is 31. This news has not gone down well. She is a young woman who is now also displaying symptoms of pre-menopause.
Obviously there are no words to explain how relieved and grateful I am that she is, for now, cancer free but the caveat to this is ongoing physical pain, anxiety and fear of what else the treatment has caused her.

Having been in my Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma journey for over 26 years I have talked with many people who unfortunately have developed post Lymphoma treatment issues…… indeed I developed heart issues eventually resulting in a heart-attack 7 years after my last treatment….. I also developed hearing issues back in 2012 with my Right Ear having 85% loss with remaining 15% a muffled sound with continuous pulsing 24/7 and Left Ear 50 – 60% loss + Tinnitus.
