Hi all,

My reversal is booked for next wednesday and whilst my bowel habits will be unknown until after the op I just wondered what I could expect from the operation itself.

I had a laproscopic LAR at the end of August so my recovery period was pretty quick. I was able to do most things after about 3-4 weeks and returned to work shortly after.

Regarding next week will the operation also be completed laproscopically? I've also read that some patients have an open wound and some have stitches,  does any one know what dictates the type of results I will get?

Obviously I'm hoping to be out before Chritmas but providing evertything goes according to plan would a realistic time in hospital be a couple of days

Thanks in advance

    Hi Andy

I have had some alcohol since my operation. I partly tried it because everything felt so tense and a glass of wine is a great muscle relaxer. I found red wine goes straight through to the bag as a liquid, while a beer (non alcoholic one I admit) made it a bit gassy at first. I’d say try it in moderation at home before trying it on an evening out, unless you’re very familiar with your pub or whatever and you know it’s loos are pleasant.

Mostly though have a great night with your Dad. Feeling good is to be celebrated.

Sorry. I just noticed you had a reversal. I can’t give you my opinion on that as I’m not due for one of those for a while.

  • Hi

Glad to hear that you’re recovering so well from your reversal and a walk and a couple of pints with your dad sounds a great idea. I’m not a nurse so this is just my personal view! Have a walk but don’t go mad - there’s nothing worse than starting to flag part way through and then realising how far you’ve still got to go!

I like a couple of beers (well lager) on a nice day - the more you drink, the more you will visit the toilet and the quicker you will need to get there - that’s just my experience - there’s a price to pay but I just accept that. So maybe go for it but don’t go mad and remember the Bowel Cancer mantra - never trust a fart!

    Take care

    Karen

    Morning Karen.

thank you very much for your frank reply.

yes I am little bit worried about having a pint but if I'm close to the toilets in an obvious place like a pub I should be ok I guess.

do I need to take more plants etc and maybe some wipes?

  • Hi . Well you could take a couple of geraniums with you but I’m not really sure how that would help? Oh should that read ‘pants?’ Stuck out tongue winking eye Sorry! To be honest I just make sure I have a pack of tissues in case there’s no toilet roll.

At the risk of being very frank/personal it could also be worth wearing a women’s panty liner in your underwear just for a bit of extra security?

    Have a pint for me
