Hi, I've just joined the group almost a year after my bowel tumour was removed and my stoma came to live with me.

Since then I have pondered how much of my previous diet I  can return to?

I avoid things like tomato, onions ,beans, fruit, lettuce and peas etc totally but wonder if I am being a bit paranoid about it?

Any shared experience would be helpful.

  • Hi I’m nine months in and eat everything without skin. No problems at all. I’ve ate peas since the beginning I started with little petit pois and chewed. Think that works for me chewing much more than before. I’m now eating nuts though they do cause jaw ache from all the chewing.
I’ve not eaten  sweetcorn which I really miss. That’s the one thing I know it comes out how it goes in and it’s definitely a blocker. I’m going to try the baby corns this summer so I’ll let you know how it goes.
Also I’ve stay away from the ordinary coss type lettuce not that I think it blocks but I feel I need colour so I buy Italian style and spinach strong leaves mix them up then add radishes cucumber with seeds removed and beetroot it’s delicious and bright

sometimes I grate carrot though not often

It’s surprising what we can eat once our stoma’s are settled

  • Thanks for that Artsie Ann, it's been really helpful to me getting feedback from people with the experience rather than lots of theory.

    Stay safe and well.

  • No problem.
    Enjoy experimenting.

  • hi all, lots of trial and error stuff- worked for me. Bananas and stewed apple are the only two fruits I can eat. As mentioned previously my system tolerates more variety before 1pm. No idea why. I've always reintroduced very small amounts of new foods. Some are fine, others no- way. It 's a very individual thing. Beans I was told caused problems- they were fine with me. I've had both an illiostomy and a colostomy.
