From what I've read about living with a stoma, there are some things I might have to remove from my diet. Is this right? I love cashew nuts but they come up as one tricky item to deal with.
What experience have people had?
Thanks for all the kind words and support on other posts of mine.
I eat sweetcorn very regularly and have no issues with it. In fact I’ve never had a colostomy blockage of any sort within the last 2 years. Everyone is different.

Things definitely seem easier with a colostomy in terms of what you can eat!

Oh Sarah I am soooooo jealous. I might run to the pantry and open a tin of sweetcorn.
when I was told that I was booked for the stoma I asked the nurse if I could eat sweetcorn she said No I actually could have cried sweetcorn fritters in winter and sweetcorn salads with mayo I could live on it Not now whoops stopped me good and proper
I love it.

I really like sweetcorn too Ann! But I wasn’t ever told by any of my team, nor the stoma nurses, that there would be anything I’d be unable to eat. When I asked about what I would be eating after surgery in hospital, my surgeon told me they like to get people eating completely normally as soon as possible so there would be no restrictions. I was able to have anything off the standard hospital menu but unfortunately had no appetite so didn’t eat much at all. I must admit it sounds so much easier having a colostomy compared to ileostomy! I’d be sad to have any restrictions.

Yes it is I think that colostomy’s can have near normal diets. I’m on low fibre. Complete turnaround from when I had cancer. It’s fine though as my cancers in the bin and I am feeling stronger all the time.
Spains approaching. Really looking forward to it c
Ann
Definitely completely normal for me, and I’m very glad. Yes, not long till your trip to Spain and relaxing by that pool. I’ll be hoping everything goes well on your journey there, and that it gives you the confidence to do many more. A lot of it is just about confidence and it was scary doing flights the first time, but I coped and you will too! Even if Whoopi makes a bit of noise, plane cabins are quite noisy anyway, so no-one will notice, and if anyone does, you’ll never be seeing them again so no need to worry!

Agreed
I went to an all day wedding in a beautiful Manor House. I wanted to wear a vintage beaded white and pink paisley dress though I worried about having a leak so I contemplated wearing a dark colour. The sun shone so I wore it. Even the bride loved it and I gained so much confidence. It went through without a hitch. I used extra tape and even got on the dance floor It’s given me a boost. Fingers crossed for the flight but like you say they don’t know me anyway
Ann
Oh that’s brilliant news about the wedding Ann! Your dress sounded lovely and I’m so glad you were able to wear it rather than a dark colour. And so glad it’s given you a boost to your confidence. It’s a short flight to Spain, so hopefully will be absolutely no bother and you’ll sail through it without a hitch!
