I am so tired of spending most of my life governed by this ileostomy.
I am a very positive person and have done all the things advised to recover from my LAR six weeks ago.
However, I have not had a single nights sleep. I am constantly up to empty my ileostomy which the consistency seems to change completely from the day time. It’s hard to empty as it’s very thick and this means I have to be fully conscious at two in the morning which then means I am awake propped up in bed counting sheep to doze off then up at six if I am lucky. I had more rest when I had a new born.
It’s driving me nuts!
I have tried diet, eating large in morning and getting smaller throughout the day however I am unable to eat big meals I am more grazing style.
Any suggestions to aid my sleeping at night would be amazing…..
Im a two hourly girl as well.I have tried emptying"fred"with my eyes half shut but it doesnt really work!!
Also tried not to put the bathroom light on but again no success.
If anyone has the answer to this they could patent it and earn a fortune
I wonder if we are all up at the same times??
Hi, I think you will find that it is mostly down to what you eat and when you eat. I know you've probably tried it all, but keep trying. Mostly the bulging bag is caused by eating foods creating gas. People without stomas would just be f***ing. Try thinking back to what foods caused gas before your op. Even now if and when you have a bag fall of gas, what did you eat?. Stop eating it. Although you may have tried and thought it doesn't work, it really does make a difference not eating late or evening snacking. I feel I can control it better now, but have to say that after 9 years of carrying a bag, I really dont care about getting up in night to empty, you do get used to it. It is a wonderful feeling getting the diet right, going to bed at 10pm and sleeping through until 6am. Not very often though because 78 year old men do need to visit bathroom several times in the night just weeing
