Hi every one

Does anyone else encounter this with their GP approving their stoma supplies. So I am quite new to this having only had my temporary illostomy since the end of October . I was told to order my supplies 14 days in advance to allow for GP approval and sending supplies out. Well I placed an order on the 7th December for enough supplies to last until after Christmas I received a text yesterday to say my order was ready to despatch and found out my GP had only approved 1 box of each item I ordered . Barrier sticks come in 1 x 5 so that's just 5 days worth!! This is the 2nd order I've made and the 2nd time it's happened. Do the GP not understand we cannot do without these items , you can hardly pop down to the chemist and get some emergency supplies,  I can understand they have to control medications etc but what do they think I'm going to do overdose on these supplies.

It makes my blood boil!!

  • Hi,I've had my stoma 11 weeks and have had a few problems with supplies.I have an appointment on Friday with the stoma nurse so I'm hoping she can add night bags onto the prescription as they were left off the last one.Jane

  • Hi I saw my stoma nurse this week at the hospital and she just gave me all the bits I was missing from my order.

I've got all my stoma essentials as a repeat prescription and I can view the quantities of each item online that I have agreed with my GP.

I can also look at an audit trail and if someone makes an amendment I can see who has made it and I have rectified.

Fortunately I have a counter arguement to substantiate why every item is necessary.

I dont see why if NICE include an item in the monthly drug tariff why it should not be routinely prescribed if a stoma care specialist nurse has approved it in the first place.

I think the battle will get worse in the months to come and we must be prepared to stand our ground.

Being an ostomate is not one size fits all! but we do have one thing in common "We have no option but to Live with our Stomas"

What do see as an ostomate when you look at this picture

  • gps will try to cut down stoma supplies I threatned I go to the local paper

  • Hi have they already tried to cut down your supplies if so that's truly shocking ,I too will take it further if they try and cut my supplies , I have to call them a lot when they knock a couple of items of to remind them I can't live without them . I usually get it resolved but it's frustrating that they think your ordering things for the sake of it
