Hi
Could anyone advise me my stoma output goes from like hard balls then the next day can be extremely loose. I haven't changed my diet or anything.
Had my stoma since August 2018
Is this normal
Thankyou xxxxxx
Hi Bud,
I'm 7 years with my stoma and no two days are the same! It could be something to do with your diet - even your hydration levels. Try keeping a food diary and see if there's anything that comes out from that. As long as your stoma is working, I wouldn't worry too much about it!
Linda :-)
Aww thankyou Linda I will start a diary buts my mind at rest thankyou xxx

Hi
A very belated welcome to stoma support or as I like to call it poo corner.
Depending on the position of your stoma on your colon can affect the consistency of your output and depends on how much water the output collects on its journey.
Hard small balls in a non ostomate would be considered normal.
You should be sticking to a high fibre diet fresh fruit and vegetable and of course keeping up with your liquid intake.
A food diary is always a good idea and there are some very good ones on Google play store and I assume also on Apple which are easy to keep recording not only your food intake (remember the snacks) but your liquid intake also(including teas, coffees, milk in cereal, water and any other drinks you have)
If you are experiencing a lot of watery output you want might to consider an open drainable bag on any day that you have watery output so that you can empty the bag and keep using it. If you are using a two piece all you would need is a supply of drainable pouches as both types are interchangeable in the base plate.
I wouldn't worry too much about the output you are experiencing but keep an eye on it and make sure that you are not experiencing constipation.
Hope the above helps, please accept my apologies for being late to respond have been out of action for the last three days.
Any problem, any time just ask nothing is too small to ask.
Ian
