Despite having emergency surgery to remove a 6 inch tumour from my colon whilst on holiday in France August 2018 I’ve never had a colonoscopy. Well now I’m told I should have one by the UK surgeon (she didn’t do my original op). She has explained she will sedate me with a Valium type drug. I am dreading it tbh. Can any of you give me the benefit of your experience if you’ve been through similar?
Thank you in advance
Many apologies I keep responding to the wrong Cameal
Hi Julie
No I was fine when I got home and also I didn’t have any output from my bag for a while which was nice
The best bit was when the doctor said everything in my bowel was normal and I didn’t need to come back for a colonoscopy for 5 years.

I also had a colonoscopy through the stoma last week. I was very worried but it was absolutely fine. I had what he said was mild sedation but was very alert and was watching process on camera. No pain or discomfort and seems to be much quicker than original colonoscopy. Best bit, like someone said, was no output for about 2 days afterwards. The Movieprep also seemed better this time - drank it chilled through a straw and drainable bags worked fine. First lot at 5pm, next lot at 8pm and all done by 11pm ready for good night’s sleep. It will be fine! Very best wishes. X
Hi thank you for taking the time to reply with your reassurance and for sharing your own experience. I am not sure I’ll watch the process if I am awake enough although I am nosey by nature so we'll see .
I am just recovering from yesterday’s chemo today and I wish you all the very best at whatever stage you are currently at regarding your own treatment.
kind regards

Don't worry about it. I had a colonoscopy before my op and it was OK. Had one recently after the stoma was done (ie through the stoma) and it was easier. Didn't bother with the sedative. Didn't seem much point as you have to hang around in recovery for an hour or so . Worse thing was the vile liquid you had to drink the night before. Very difficult to choke down. Didn't watch the live TV feed though. Too much to bear on an empty stomach.
