Hi everyone, I am new to Cancer. I just wanted to know if people lose weight after bowel op and stoma bag fitted. I'm only 7.6 stone, and worried about the whole thing of the op. I'm still in shock with the diagnosis xxx
Its completely normal to fear the unknown and sometimes a little cry can help. I never in a million years thought my dash to the toilet after my cup of tea in a morning would be Cancer and, if I’m honest, I was probably a little bit in denial. One of my husbands favourite sayings is ‘it is what it is’ so I thought well, I can’t change it now so better concentrate on getting treated.
I personally wanted to learn as much as possible about what lay or might lay ahead so read as much as possible on here and the Bowel Cancer UK board but not google. I even managed to watch a u tube clip on changing a stoma bag in readiness.
Id never been in hospital before all this but everything was explained at every stage of the journey by the various specialists so I had confidence in them. The worst bit was the lack of sleep and the food!
I’ve attached a copy of a booklet about the op if you want to have a look at it?

Hi Pollylilly and all in the group. I am new to this too. My breast cancer from Sept 2014 spread to my bones Dec 2017, my bowel Feb 2019 and I've just found out it's now in my liver. I had horrendous pain, vomiting g and constipation in January, had an emergency ileostomy on 21st February.
I was in hospital for 2 weeks, discharged on 6th March. I lost 2.5 stone in total, down to 7 stone at my lowest. I've managed to get up to 8 stone and been stable for 6-8 weeks. I sat loads, far more than ever before but don't seem to be able to increase my weight.
