    Hi Everybody

I have just been diagnosed with Grade 2 cancer in the right breast and will be having a mastectomy on 9th June. I have elected not to have a reconstruction at this time because of the longer recovery period. From all the messages that I have read on this site it appears that chemo & radiotherapy is the norm after surgery? Any help and advise would be most welcome.

My best wishes to you all.

    Jan

    Hi All

A big thank you for all the birthday wishes.

I have had a wonderful time. I've been thoroughly spoiled with flowers, prezzies and cards.

The most wonderful thing was my brother just decided to drive down from Scotland to surprise me. He said he couldn't think what to buy me for my birthday so he thought a surprise visit might be just the ticket! It was!

Paula you are having such a tough time at the moment. My heart goes out to you.

Jan, welcome to the board. If that is the right thing to say. I'm sure none of us really want to be here. However, it is good to chat about things to others in a similar situation.

I think most of us here who have had surgery, go on to have chemo and radiotherapy. Although I do know that some folks only need the chemo.

The only advice I can give you is to do everything the doctors/nurses tell you to. The chemo affects all of us differently but there's not a lot we can do about it.

Maybe if you read some of our profiles you will get an idea of what we have had in the way of treatment and how we have coped with it.

Chemo number 5 for me next week. I go on Wednesdays now instead of Tuesdays. So, Chelle you will be a day ahead of me from now on.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

    Love Jean x

Hi everyone.Thankyou for your best wishes and positive vibes, they have worked lol. The sun is out, the stitches have calmed down and I am feeling positive again! I am going to make the most of this gorgeous weekend before my week of results and chemo.
Jan I am not sure how it works for everyone but my surgeon told me that if they hadn't found the cancer in my lymphs I would not of had to have radiotherapy as well as chemo.Hope you are o.k with it all.
I hope the weather is as gorgeous for everyone else, have a great weekend!!!
P.s Seriously jealous of Lorraine in her brothers pool lol xxx

    Paula,

Can I ask you what type of reconstruction you had and how does it look?

Hi Marian. I had silicone filled with saline implants. I have probably gone from a 36 c/d to a 36 b/c. I am honestly over the moon with them. I was cut from side to nipple, the right nipple was sown back on but I lost the left one (I am getting a new one when the treatment has finished). They look great in a bra and the scars are already healing well (apart from the broken area which I had re-stitched the other day). Without a bra I am still confident in front of hubby and he thinks they are going to look great when healed properly.Have you had reconstruction or thinking of doing so?? xxxx

    Hi ,

I'm new to Share and don't know what I'm doing.

I have breast cancer and have to have an operation for axillary clearance on Wednesday 27th May. I am really nervous and feel even worse than when I had my first operation which was a lumpectomy. Can't relax or do anything to get rid of the dread.

Hi Caroline, try not to worry. I had the clearance done at the same time as a double mastectomy and I was absolutely fine. The only side effect I seem to have is stiffness in the lower arm but after a few exercises in the morning it gets better. I realise you may also be worried what they find in the lymphs but again try not to worry, many women who have it in the lymphs are treated very successfully. I start my chemo on the same day so I will be thinking of you. xx
