    Hi All

I hope today is an OK day for everyone.

Lesley, and others, please can I ask some advice? We have known about Dad's blood clot in his groin as long as we have known about the cancer and the two seem to go hand-in-hand in a lot of cases. Does anyone know why this is? Dad is having the Clexane injections for the clot, I imagine the same with your Dad Lesley? Originally it was his calf which was swollen but the swelling went down with the Clexane but now his ankle swells up if he's walking about for more than an hour or two (he likes to play nine holes of golf in between the chemo if he can!). They have said this is fine and the Clexane is what they offer so he should just stay on that. Does anyone know why in 'normal life' blood clots are a big issue which may move and kill you but in 'cancer life' nobody seems bothered by them?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated as this puzzles me and no-one seems to know the answer.

    Thinking of you all.

    Hi Petra,

Sorry to hear about your dad - unfortunatley I dont know why cancer and blood clots go hand in hand and why it is so common - hopefully someone more knowledgable might be able to help? my dad is being given Clexane as well - sounds very similar to your dads actually - the clot is in his groin and his ankles and feet have been huge and swollen for a few months now - we had put this now to the steroids but now im not so sure - the clots have been found in his lungs now but we've been told not to worry?? hard bloody not to eh - im going up to collect him soon so might question a bit more. Love and strength to you and your dad...good on him that he can still get to his golf, thats fab xxx

Ok immediate panic over! they have upped his dex today he has to take 12mg and tomorrow lower it to 8mg - and keep a close eye on him - they said its a fine balance between the swelling reducing due to the trial drugs and reducing his dex. I asked if it means the trial isnt working and they said doesnt mean that at all. how I am meant to keep an eye on him when he is at work i dont know but will call him loads to make sure he is ok. if sympotoms arent better by tonight they want him in so have to watch and wait something we're all good at eh!

will post again later off to get daughter for horse riding lesson!

Emma, how are you going to manage to keep Mr Duracell at home with you, even after all this he is still at work, bet you panicked when this happened, at the least the hospital have eased your mind a little at the moment, keep us all informed thinking of you hope the girls enjoy their riding lesson xxx

Petra, for some reason cancer patients are much more at risk to blood clots, not sure why maybe its the blood flow affected by the tumour not too sure tho. xx

Lesley, hope your dad is good today, and your mum Paul and the kids, lovely day down in ayrshire today. xx

thinking of all my other lovely friends today Martins reflexologist is coming soon, off to get him ready.

    Hello All....

Temporarily perhaps..but I came up with something Dad is eating, and enjoying! I am taking canned peach pie filling, running it thru a food processor , and then mixing it with Vanilla ice cream...so it is a creamy Peach shake. Peach Pie is his favorite... Tonight, I am trying apple!

    Any other suggestions?

    Evening all
Well Matthew refused to come home from work earlier so little miss nurse went to work with the extra dex and called him on the hour every hour and really annoyed him!!! he came home and went to bed which isnt that unusal these days - his sight seems fine now but his words are still a little muddled but better so not so worried now. This is exactly what happened before xmas and he got really ill vomiting and his sight was really distorted. The doc from the marsden called again a while ago to check all was ok (how many hospitals do that!!!)- asked him if this meant the trial wasnt working and he assured me it means no such thing just that perhaps the 2mg drop in steroids was too much too soon - he will be on 8mg a day for a week until his next scan (thurs week) then they will review it and reduce it more slowly. He said its a hard balancing act but we will get there so really reassured now. Was scared after such positive news last week it seemed like we were taking 2 huge steps back. But thank you for your support over the last few days & your nagging gayle to call the hospital!!!! it is appreciated!

gayle glad martin's leg is ok - all these side affects but to me dex are worth their weight in gold!

Petra sorry I know nothing about blood clots and tumours - i do know that being on certain meds and having a tumour increases the chances of bleeds and clots - hope things sort themselves out x

Lesely - is your dad home yet??? hope so and really hope things settle down now for you its been a bumpy couple of weeks.

Becca - other than talking footie with gayle (sorry we are arsenal through and through here!) Ihope your dad is ok and you are coping too - no matter how much you prepare yourself for these scans and the results it makes no difference when you actually have it confirmed it hits and oh boy does it hurt. Thinking of you all xxx

Izzy if your reading but not posting - thinking of you and b really hope all is ok - post soon please a few of us are worried we havent heard from you in a while xxxxxx

Lisa glad your dad is eating something - have you heard of these milkshake drinks that have everything in them - the hosptial gave us a load a few weeks ago - they come in loads of flavours - when matthew is off food i tempt him with them and add icecream to them - he really likes them and has no idea its not a regular shake - i guess you can add anything to them really - just a thought - glad your enjoying your time with your dad xxx

Carrie what a friend you have there - hope you have a memorable time together xxxx in my thoughts xxx

Green tree hope your doing ok too? thanks for your concern - amazing this site how we all pull together and give one another stregnth xxxx

Jay - hope things are okish with you too xxx

As karen said a few posts back couple of people not been on for a while = thinking of you all and hope you can post soon - think you may need big mac hugs xxxxxxx

Well this was meant to be a short post ha ha - off to cook matthews dinner now - he is starving no doubt now the dex are up my food bill will triple again !!!!!!

Love to all you amazing people

    Emma xxxx

    Morning everyone

A lovely spring morning, lovely to see. Well Martin and I are off to the theatre tomorrow night as Martin won 2 tickets on a radio show last night, he so pleased we never win anything, the thing is its a show we both would like to see, lst week I suggested that we go and he said oh I dont think I'd be up to it, but now that he won the tickets, he is so proud he cant wait to go, bless him.

Emma, I hope Mathew is a bit better today, no doubt he will be at work anyway lol, hope everything is going well with the fundraising!!! xx

Debbie, glad your mum and dad had a good holiday, glad you got on well at the beatson and that you learned alot, did you drive up and down the road in one day??? The seizures are really scarey. xx

Lisa, hope your dad is well today, its amazing how that most bt patients will eat sweet things before anything else think its a dex thing, you should try fruit smoothies for your dad the fruit will boost his immune system. xx

Lesley, good to hear your dad is home, you will all be pleased. xx

Joan, Izzy, Carrie, Jay, Karen, Becca, Diane, greentree, CH and everyone else thinking of you all.
