Today mum made the decision with her oncologist that she will have no more treatment for Tommy, her tumour !
I knew this day was coming but it's knocked me down like a train. The decision I am sure is the right decision, not sure how much more she can take. I didn't go with her to the appointment my bro's did.so not entirely sure what happens now.
We have made the move into the care home permanent, which again I believe is the right move but doesn't stop me feeling guilty!
I wish I could wave a magic wand and make it all better but I know I can't.
Any ideas what I should be expecting now? Does she get transferred back to her GP?
What a momentous and difficult day for you all but it does sound as though your mum has made the right decision.
I would think she'd be transferred to the care of the hospital's palliative team who would then liaise with the GP.
I think I'd phone or Email the oncology department to ask about the next step or there's a place on this website called 'Ask an Expert' and they may be able to answer your question.

Hi Helen_S
Normally your mum would move to the palliative care team - looking at minimise the impact of the tumour rather than trying to treat the tumour itself - this can often make a real difference in quality of life.
Although not cancer related both my dad and my wife's dad ended up in care homes - because they can offer the 24/7 care that was beyond our capability living at home. It also meant that we could switch back to loving/caring children rather than carer/parent - yes there is a sense of guilt but hard to imagine the guilt if we had missed something important at home.
I remember the days of wishing for a magic wand - of even a lamp but what would my 3 wishes be.
<<hugs>>
Steve
