hi all,
I wrote on here last year explaining that both my parents were diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer that had spread to their liver and lymph nodes.
I sadly lost my mum in February after a very valiant battle (2.5yrs from diagnosis). Whilst we have been dealing with the loss of mum, we have also been trying our best to support dad.
Yesterday dad had an appointment with his oncologist and unfortunately due to deteriorating liver function, he is now no longer able to receive chemotherapy. They have prescribed morphine now for him and palliative nurses are getting involved. The doctor didnt give him a time frame of how long he has, but my feeling is that it isn't long going by how he has deteriorated in these last few months.
I never thought I'd be losing both my parents in the same year.
I just needed a safe place to talk about this with people who may be going through the same. Thanks if you got this far x
Hi MorganAE
So sorry to hear about your mum and the position you find for your dad. I too never thought I would lose both parents in the same year but ended up losing them both within 6 weeks of each other and in my mothers case really out of the blue, her cancer was only diagnosed at the autopsy but it was not what killed her - we think more the broken heart - either that or she was just too stubborn to die first.
For me of course that was back in 2013 - definitely my annus horriblus but with help I managed to get on a more even keel and can look back on the wonderful life my parents lived and make them proud of how I have ended up.
<<hugs>>
Steve
