Hey everyone, I'm new here. My mum was diagnosed with throat cancer Monday and I'm honestly not coping at all. My heart is shattered, yesterday they told my mum if the treatment don't work her life expectancy is 1 year and a half 
she's my absolute rock, my best friend. I'm trying to be strong for my younger brothers who are dealing with it pretty hard but I am too. It's a complete shock to the family, I'm finding it hard to look after my children and myself. How do you carry on with everyday life?

Welcome to our community though we are always sorry to see another member in our very special club.
If we look at Your feelings when someone has cancer we can see how "normal" we are in very hard times. Some of the old hands on here tell us that these life expectancy predictions are generally not very helpful. My wife was very clear she never wanted one and nobody would have guessed that 6 years down the line she would still be going strong living with rather than dying from cancer.
You do not say how old your children are but it might be helpful to look at our guide Talking to children and teenagers as they can often be more resilient than we might think; often they may imagine things that may well we much worse than the truth too.
What really helped me was doing a living with less stress course with Maggies, helped me recognize the signs of pre-grief and of course my imagination coming up with things that never actually happened. Of course life occasionally likes to throw curve balls at us and the conscious breathing tips helped me deal with them and indeed when emotions start of overwhelm me. Transcendental meditation though did not really work for me.
