Waiting for the results

Well. I've finished the chemotherapy pills - Capecitabine and Temozolomide - for Pancreatic Cancer with metastases to Liver, and just had the end of treatment CT Scan yesterday, so now a matter of waiting for the appointment to see the Oncologist in 11 days time. Always seem to be waiting. I suppose the scan images have to be studied and future check ups decided, etc.

I've said I'll ring the bell once I know the outcome of all this treatment, which was terminated one cycle early due to developing chest pains - put down to the Capecitabine which can cause narrowing of the arteries, so now the Cardiologists are back on the scene. I wonder if this pill (or the other one) can cause arthritis like pains? I'll have to ask I suppose.

In the meantime, some hopeful spring time pictures, taken in Ness Botanical Gardens, Wirral, over the last three or four weeks.

  • Well, I've just got the results - Great news! Cancer is stable, its been halted. BUT, I have to continue with the treatment indefinitely. This I'm not too happy about because the nasty pills are nasty and we had hoped for three months off before another CT scan to check that the cancer had not started up again. Still must be glad for small mercies.

Didn't think I'd posted this - I got interrupted "mid flow"!

I was going on to add, that the treatment was stopped early because I was getting chest pains. I had telephone appointments with Cardiologists who both thought I didn't have Angina (neither did I) but the second has arranged for an Echocardiogram at the end of April. The Oncologist wanted me to see a GP about the chest pains before having the Outpatient meeting this morning and a Macmillan nurse in the Outpatients Dept. at the Cancer Hospital actually managed to arrange a physical appointment with a GP, who diagnosed "indigestion" and prescribed one or two 20mg Famotidine twice a day. Amazingly, these seem to have had a beneficial effect. However, this is not good enough for the Oncologist who won't restart treatment until I have the Echo which must be "stressed".  Waiting a call back from the Cardiologist's secretary - but will she take my word?

  • That is good news Slight smile

I'm sure you'd have preferred not to continue with the medication but maybe you'll be able to have a break from it in the future.
