I have an extended family member who was diagnosed with bowel cancer two years ago. She had surgery to remove the tumour and has been cancer free since then as far as we know. She had chemotherapy tablets amongst other medication and at the beginning of this year had her stoma removed and is getting used to going to the toilet again. She is 69 years old and although very fit, I am worried she should be self isolating. I upset her by suggesting this as she feels because she is cancer free and not 70, she doesn't fall into the vulnerable category. I'm looking for some advice as the government guidelines aren't clear for people like her. I imagine the hospital staff have been in touch with her by now but I don't trust her to tell me the truth. I am just concerned that she may be more prone to infection. Thanks in advance.

What a lovely, supportive person you are to want to make sure that your relative is doing the right thing whilst the coronavirus is around.
Could I suggest that you join the bowel cancer group and post your question there as there will probably be people in that group who are in the same position as your relative and can tell you what they are doing.
