Anger

Hello

I hope you are all doing ok today.

I'm just struggling with things that friends and acquaintances sometimes say about my cancer and treatment.  Things that are very insensitive. I feel that I wouldn't do the same and I feel frustrated and angry.

Have others experienced this?

Thanks and best wishes Pray

  • Hi  and I see it’s your first post on the community so welcome.

Most people reading your post will understand about the silly and insensitive things people say. I have been on my cancer journey for over 22 years now and nothing much has changed.

Most people, if they have not had first hand experience of living the cancer journey just don’t know what to say.

I have to say that I now mostly ‘hear’ past the words and accept peoples lack of understanding. Although if they are completely off the mark I will challenge their lack of knowledge and put them right - some folks don’t like this.

You would benefit from talking with others on the same type of cancer journey. You don’t say what type of cancer you have but if you care to have a look through this list you will find all our many dedicated cancer support groups listed.

These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

    All the very best.

  • Thanks for responding Mike. I think youre right about people's lack of understanding.  And I think I get angry as I'm scared and they push my buttons even though they don't mean to.

I had breast cancer. I'll look up the group.

    Have a lovely day.

    Best wishes

  • If you are post treatments then also have a look at our Life after cancer group as well.

  • Thanks Mike. I've just joined the Life After Cancer group. I'll be 2 years post diagnosis on April 5th.

    Best wishes

  • I am over 6 years out from my last treatment so do hang around the Life after Cancer group.

There are some good discussion threads that is worth making a cup if tea and looking through - I am sure we will talk again.

  • Yes I'll have a look through. I've taken a pretty unconventional path through my cancer so I'm a bit lonely sometimes.  I'm glad I joined the community just to feel connected.

You must be doing so well to be 6 years since your last treatment.  That's inspirational. . Thanks for talking with me
