Psoriasis and chemo

Hi all

I finished treatment last year & been given all clear but have a problem with my psoriasis. I've suffered with it for many years on my elbows and knees but chemo cleared it up completely, unfortunately a while after finishing chemo it started to return but this time all over my body. I've got a referral to a dermatologist marked urgent but been told it could take up to 10 months to be seen. The new patches of psoriasis don't seem to respond to my steroid cream. Anybody had any experience of any of this?

  • Sorry to hear this….. I can understand how you feel as I was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rather rare (8 in a million) type of Skin Non Hodgkins Lymphoma that was like extreme psoriasis.

I have spoken to many people who have found their psoriasis comes back worse….. and others who develop psoriasis after treatment is completed.

Dermatology is a very busy department and as you see long waiting times…… you will need to ask your GP to see if they can push this appointment for you.

  • Thanks for that, I'll try getting my GP to push it for me.

  • Hey just seen this as this is exactly what is happening to me. How are you getting on?.

  • Hi Sweet21Pea, did you have it before starting chemo? I had it on my elbows and knees and after chemo it totally disappeared but a few months after finishing chemo it started to reappear in the same places plus small patches almost anywhere on my body.I was put on the dermatologist waiting list as urgent and then told that would take around 16 months !!!!.(I'm still waiting) I've always used a steroid cream to help keep it under control but my GP has changed that to a spray called "ENSTILAR" it contains the same medication but is easier to use over larger areas and it seems to help.Stick with it and go see your GP and just remember it's a small price to pay for getting over cancer.I wish you all the best.

  • Sorry to hear your still waiting. I had the same before chemo just elbows and knees.I saw gp last week and he also put me on enstilar, but after speaking to my palletive care nurse she was concerned as it shouldn't be used on more than 30% of the body I have another appointment on Tuesday.

  • Are you still having any treatment,I know the active ingredient in ENSTILAR is exactly the same as in more of the steroid creams and one side effect is it thins the skin
