I know this sounds trivial my husband has just had his 2nd round of chemo today for stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer i have tried and tried to be supportive but in his eyes i am stupid and cant do nothing right if i get upset he doesnt even notice i cant tell him how i feel cos he walks away i know people say ignore  he doesnt mean it but that is so hard .because i have feelings too i just wondered if anyone else has this problem.

  • Have to remind myself as well.that it is worse for him.  The analogy of a hamsters wheel is so true.  Yesterday, he was like a child at Christmas.  Saw a conflict on the calendar with his chemo that I had mentioned on a number of occasions.  It was as though it was the first time he knew about it and was so pleased with himself.  Just have to bite my lip not to remind him that I had already mentioned that it needed sorting out and that in rhus situation I couldnt do it for him.  Perhaps now he will.... This chemo fog is so exhausting. Someone mentioned it was like dementia symptoms.  I can now absolutely see why.

  • Yes i can too i feel like im talking a different language sometimes  and going to the supermarket is a nightmare  but we do go and get a coffee which always cheers me up

  • Well Im in his bad books (agajn).  He phoned to rebook the appointment that coincided with his  chemo to another date that coincided with another chemo! Then he got annoyed when I mentioned it.  Apparently it is my fault that he didn't put it on the calendar!

One good thing, I went back to my exercise class this morning.  Another hour of freedom from worries.  Heaven.

  • Patience I'm sorry you're experiencing this too and glad to hear you have some escape with the exercise class.

Thank you so much for posting about this, because I'm experiencing exactly the same and I thought it was something wrong with me.

Like you I try not to take it personally, or react negatively, but it's hard sometimes when you're trying so hard in such a horrible situation, yet still told it's all wrong.

I hope the class gave you the break you needed.

  • I think you will find shanty theres a lot of carers in the same boat as us . It is a horrible situation but if u can find a distraction even for just a couple  of hours a week i t does help and try to think its not really them its the illness doing it .

  • Hi all, everything Im reading sounds familiar. Im carer for my wife. Honestly she’s brilliant and rarely grumpy.

its me who’s arsey and has to work hard to hold it together.

my lovely wife has brain cancer and its affected her memory so I get lots of repeat questions and half finished sentances. The questikns are all day from wake up to bed. Because she has forgotten stuff. Thats not bad I can imagine people thinking but grinds you down and always feels worse when tired.

My coping strategy is to carve time out for myself, walking, going for a coffe, watch some sport, listen to chill music. Allows for recharging.

Anyway keep supporting them. Sounds like youre all doing a great job. Dont ever beat yourself up for being pissed off. Remember to care for yourself.

  • We all struggle in our way, and if anything like me  feel guilty for being like that.

He has pulled a muscle in his back which is giving him grief. Self help Nada.  He has voltarol, a back brace, we have neurofen.  Have you used any of these I ask?  No is the answer!   I.even have to remind him to eat.  I try to be patient, he is sick after all.

I have reached out to the GP in my own right for stress helpful.  She has been very helpful, even though I am not the current cancer patient.  My operation was in January with no chemo fortunately and I am in the five year check up stage.

Life is no fun in our family at the moment!

We are off to the surgery in a while for his Covid jab.  Unfortunately I gave been told I dont qualify.

My daily self pitying rant over!  Look after yourself folks.

  • I think you might be eligible for a Flu Jab, I get one.

  • if anything like me  feel guilty for being like that.

    100%!!!

I went to group counseling at Maggies in Leeds, was good to be honest. Better than I expected and I spoke at length about the guilt.

If you havent try it out, it worked for me.

  • You look after yourself too weve been to oncology today for an iron infusion he is acting right odd today oh well lets hope he calms down in a bit
