Only child - finding it hard

Hi

I am only child and my dad has been diagnosed with kidney, lung and lymph nodes. My parents split when I was little and my dad has a new partner, and I think she’s finding it hard impact it’s had on their ‘normal’ life.

He’s finished his first lot of immunotherapy and we’ll find out mid July if it’s been successful.

Thing is he’s losing SO much weight (45kg so far) and has v v v little appetite. He lives on his own just round the corner from me so I see him frequently. Though he’s very stubborn and isn’t really accepting much help.

It’s a lot being an only child and it’s really isolating, I have a partner who helps me but it’s a lot to expect of my partner too as we both work full time.

My dad got diagnosed in Feb, they told us it’s not curable but might be able to be maintained depending on how he reacts to treatment. But where he’s losing so much weight and not eating, he’s also really weak, and he’s anemic so he’s a funny colour too.

It’s so hard watching him fade away infront me and I’m so so scared of losing him. It feels that he’s been in denial and I’m not sure if only now he’s realising how bad it is. He was refusing to do his will or POA because he saw it as being negative but the more time that passes and the weaker he gets the more worried I am.

Am just a girl, finding it really hard. Would really love to hear from other children, especially girls losing their dads, just to know that I’m not alone. Thank you
