Hi guys, just after some advice please. Sadly my brother has been given months to live after a long battle. He doesn’t have much support and I want to do what I can whilst he’s still around however I work and have a family, does anyone know what or if I’m entitled to any carers leave from work and how to go about it, I want to help him anyway I can but also still need to provide an income, so sad that money has to play a part in this when all I want to do is support him. Thank you and I m sending you all love and strength in these sad situations. X
Hi Punkinjunk,
There is currently no statutory right to carers leave but some employers do offer it as part of a contract.
It could be worth having a conversation with your employer though as to how they might support you at this time and see if you can find a way that might actually work well for everyone. Employers that do this often find their employees can become very loyal knowing that they were taken good care of in time of need.
<<hugs>>
Steve
