My mum has late stage breast cancer and is no longer on treatment. Last year when she stopped her treatment she was refered to palliative care. She did nt need much from them then. Her symptoms are now worsening (shortness of breath, memory and balance problems).
I've just called them and found them v unhelpful. They are saying she needs another referral from her GP. Surely she should already be in the system. Anyone else finding it hard to get care and support?
Hi Daffodil B,
Unfortunately this story is not uncommon, however if you contact your mum's GP surgery they are quite likely to send off the referral and with any luck complaint about the lack of responsiveness and their time being wasted.
Balance issues are a potential problem at any time of course because of the opportunity to hurt ourselves when we fall as we can see in the information from the NHS here.
<<hugs>>
