Healing after port insertion

Hi

I had a port put in on Thursday. Surgical glue was used. I've been sent home without any care/healing advice. So any general advice would be great, when to shower etc. Also its right where my bra strap should go and is currently too uncomfortable to wear a bra. Any idea how long till the stap is ok over it?

Thanks

  • Hi

Unless you have been told otherwise I would think it ok to shower. Mine was stitched rather than glued and I wasn’t asked to avoid showering. If in doubt keep a waterproof dressing over it for a couple of days. I am sorry to hear it’s under your bra strap. I didn’t have that problem, probably because I got the interventional radiologist to draw round the bra line before the procedure, mainly because I didn’t want issues when running in a sports bra. Perhaps try putting a soft cloth or scarf under your strap? I think my main wound took a week or two to fully heal but the smaller cut on my neck was much quicker. I hope it all settles soon for you.
