Hello everyone
I have a tumour at the recto-sigmoid junction of the colon which will be removed within the next few months. I've already had Oxaliplatin IV chemo, Capacetabine oral chemo and 25 sessions of Radiotherapy. I haven't yet had a discussion about the surgery with my Oncologist - this will happen after the progress scans I'm having this month. Has anyone else here had surgery to remove a tumour at the recto-sigmoid junction and if so, what surgery did you have? Also how long was your recovery? Thank you.
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that you have a tumour that needs removing but talking to others who have had this operation is a good idea.
As the online community is divided up into cancer specific groups, could I suggest that you also join and post this question in the bowel (colon and rectum) cancer group as you should connect with others who have had this surgery there.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

Hi,
I had surgery for Colorectal surgery for stage three cancer, my tumour was at the Anul verge ( the anal wall near to the opening of the Anus including the Rectal wall.
This was going back to 2019 when I was diagnosed, followed by 12 weeks of Chemotherapy and Radium treatment five days a week , followed by a 10+ hour operation in February 2020.
I have ended up with a permanent Colostomy bag, due to having the Anus, Rectum and part of the Colon removed.
Recovery has been slow, with a few setbacks, but with the support from the local doctors and nursing team, I got through it, and I'm still here, thank goodness.
I'm more than happy to answer any questions from anyone having any concerns about Colorectal Cancer, treatment, preparing for surgery, mental health concerns, going through post operative care, dealing with Colostomy/ Stoma bag care, or just a general chat.
Many thanks
Dazzaboy
Hi Dazzaboy and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I wanted to thank you for offering to talk to others who have bowel cancer or who are living with a colostomy/stoma bag.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to suggest that you join the bowel cancer and ileostomy, colostomy and stoma support groups, as you'll then connect directly with others who may like to ask you questions.
To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
