My Mum has just been diagnosed with liver cancer. I have no idea how long she will still be with us, but the thought of losing her just kills me!! Anyway this comes just after I have survived an op to remove basal cell carcinoma from my eye lid and having it reconstructed. That was not life threatening, unless left long enought that is, just traumatic if you don't like having a piece of your eye cut out!
Good news? well after hearing about my Mum nothing seems that great anymore, seems like a dark cloud has descended on my life. Anyway for anyone out there reading this I have discovered something that helps just a tiny bit and not always, try and keep busy and use distraction. Do absolutely anything to take your mind off the pain, even if its for 10 minutes. I've even resorted to kiddie like activities to keep myself busy.... you'll be surprised how entertaining these activities can be, things you thought you'd neve do again - get a colouring in book and crayons, plastacine, knit, paint, read, write poetry, ride a bike, go to gym, walk, listen to music. Stay away from sad movies and sad TV programmes. I think if I don't keep busy I'll go insane with grief.
The only good news I've got is that my puppy did all its poopies on the puppy pad today, so the 'potty' training is going along just fine! By the way having a pet is also therapeutic, something to hug, soft fur to soak up the tears!
  • Hello, I am so sorry for your news about your Mum, it sounds as though it came on top of your worry about your eye, too....but you have come onto a great forum to get support on your journey, so please do keep posting......I bet your puppy keeps you busy! love and hugs to you....

  • All seems to have gone wrong here today, Sir found mega problems with all he wanted to do...the desk project....and has been scratching his head to come up with a working solution, now has it but not got the equipment here, it's 150 miles down the road.......Caz's washing machine has been leaking (of course, we did say to turn the water off between uses till we were sure the old machine was ok, but, hey, do they listen?!) so have been on me knees mopping it up, needless to say it was in the store with loads of cardboard boxes, bags, chipboard and anything else which will soak it up......huh! am damp, sticky, and back is aching! And Sir isn't a happy bunny! Caz doesn't know yet (last minute gig, just as well!) huh!

    Hi Helen and everyone

I will not be around for a couple of weeks as we are going to France on holiday. I had not mentioned it before as due to circumstances there was a question mark as to whether we could / would go.
Things have thankfully sorted themselves and so we are off on the silly o'clock ferry from Dover, then driving down to the Vendee!

We will be gone for just over 2 weeks hoping for sun, good food, wine, sun and some heat as well! Oh and some more French food!

So please do remember that I will be thinking of all of you and wishing only the best for each and everyone of you.

I am hoping to maybe do a flyby visit from someplace but if I don't please forgive, it will be lack of access not desire, as the Mac habit is by far more addictive than chocolate and well all know how addictive that is!!!

    love to you

  • Juls, I bet you have already shot off to the silly o'clock ferry/chunnel,and are now trundling across the other side, but just in case you haven't, have a brilliant break in la belle France and get Richard to rest! Enjoy all the delights of wine, sun, food and so on and have a good rest yourself! love and big hugs.....

  • The store/utility room is now dry, and we have decided the washing machine has died for sure....there has been some ruined stuff and wood but nothing too desperate, thank goodness. We are now concentrating on the (still many) jobs we can do which will help, and Caz's desk top looks possible though will need to be planned from our place, and relevant tools brought for the next time.....oh, for an easier, shorter journey! would that we really could fly on those broomsticks or Dysons!

  • Almost ready to go home, just a few more jobs to do today, then we will be off on the motorway again......Caz has been very busy with lots of written stuff to do while we've been here, but has enjoyed doing what she can to help, and has been learning stuff from her Dad, tiling and so on, bless her!

  • Home again, and Caz will be down here for Thursday night again......
