    Dearest Helen,
I also suffer with bad skin problems and have tried loads of moisturisers and steroids found most rubbish but one that i found really works is from the docs its doublebass and another is eurax that one is like a wax but very very good, maybe worth a try but they have to be perscribed by the GP hope that this may help. hope that your dear Caz feels better soon.
    lots of love and (((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))

  • Bless you all, and thanks for the ideas, too, Quill, i really hope that something can work fast, bless her, the skin is soooo dry at present, and flaky too. I've told her to phone her GP as well as talk to the Doc at the Christie, as I said last night, the Christie are A1 for anything to do with cancer, but skin problems like this are not something they see that regularly and so her Lymphoma specialists must be struggling with it!

    I'm sure SOMETHING will work!

love and big (((((((((((hugs)))))))))) to you all

  • Her latest blood test.......platelets are ok now, white cells coming up but she is anaemic, red count only 8.9, so they want to see her on tuesday in case it is still low, then they will consider transfusing, but of course that carries risks too, even though it would be irradiated. Skin flaking like mad, she says its like a snow shower when she takes off a t-shirt! But the Doc reckons she is beginning to recover from that, I'm not too sure as she says it is a bit weepy too. She made me laugh, said the swelling is going down a bit, she can now see her eye bags again, lol! She will ask her GP to fast track an appointment to Dermatology.

We discussed ways of boosting intake of iron in her food, she was looking forward to the best ways! (including maybe a pint of Guinness, though we do know that has only a trace of iron, lol!)

My love and hugs to you all

It may be worth speaking to your friendly chemist, there used to be a liquid that was high in iron that could be bought over the counter at chemists.  I haven't seen it for some time but then I haven't looked either.

I used to have to take this stuff as iron tablets worked better than movicol (let you work that one out). for almost all of my adult life I had chronic and severe anaemia at worst counts were down to 5.9 at their very best 8.1 so this foul dark brown gunk was a common sight in my cupboard.

  • Thanks for that, Juls, but i think it is a probably deeper problem than just iron stocks in the body/intake in foods, the whole system has been irradiated and so the actual 'making up' of red cells is affected. she certainly has been told that her 'normal' blood tests all look as if she has an excellent diet.

She has some of the typical symptoms of anaemia, tiredness, dizziness and shortness of 'puff' when she does anything, even a short walk from car park into the hospital which is all on the level, gets her puffed, and when she needed stuff from the hospital pharmacy, she walked there once but I had to collect it as she was simply too whacked to do the journey again! She has low blood pressure too, naturally, which compounds it all, so that she has to take care even when bending down putting on her Ugg boots, standing up slowly after!

    Dear Helen,
Oooops sorry the eurax one is a steriod one that I use still very good but it was epaderm that was the wax one you can use it in the bath as a soap as well then put some on after it is very waxy but very good my skin gets so sore and dry that it cracks open and bleeds and that one is really good for that.  Hope that they get thing sorted out soon for Caz.
My love and (((((((((HUGS))))))))) for you all.
