Just had a call from Caz, her platelet count is pretty low, she will need a test on Friday with a probable need for transfusion, so I'm going up there on Thursday evening to be with her and take her in.......she says she is also feeling a bit rubbish too, I guess as a result of low counts generally.
Fortunately she hasn't much work on as there is a big danger of bruising now, especially around her mouth where her mouthpiece presses in playing. If she bruises there, it sounds silly, but it can be quite damaging and there have been brass players whose careers have been ruined by bruising.
My love and hugs to all
Moomy
Helen dear lady,
Sorry to hear Caz's news, sure the blood transfusion will put things right for her. In the mean time sending you and your dear family many (((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))).
Love Maryxxxxx
P.S. Just got in oooooooooooo it is still so cold here, but the major roads are clear, it is the side roads that are a death trap you have to be so careful when driving, hope the snow does not reach you love and you manage your journey to be with Caz on Thursday. Jazzy wellies were with me today hehehe although changed when I got to work lo!
Hi Helen - I'm so sorry to hear about Caz's low platelet count. The transfusion should help. She's so lucky to have such a supportive Mom to go and be with her. That's interesting - about mouth bruising ruining a brass player's career. I never thought of that. She's been so busy these past few months, that she deserves a break and a rest. Luckily it's a slow period for musicians.
Love, Mo
Yes, she hasn't got much in her diary at present, this time of year and August too tend to be quiet.
Mo and Mary, this was expected to happen, its just a pity she also feels pretty yuk with it, which all goes to indicate that she'll definitely need that transfusion.
I hope she doesn't get too out of practise, her embouchure deteriorates quite quickly (as does everyones if they don't play regularly), she does need to do some personal prac from time to time to keep her chops in trim!
Mary, that sounded a tough journey for you today, hope I cope on Friday, will be driving a totally unfamiliar car from hers in and out of Manchester!
love and hugs to you all
Moomy
Caz is ok so far, she has done some shopping for an elderly neighbour this afternoon. i just hope that we can get through the icy and snowy roads on Friday......I hope the trains run Thursday and Friday too! We decided that if it seems too dodgy for her pals Smart sports,( they will be car swapping as her pal has to try to get to Northumberland for her Gran's funeral) we will bus, train and taxi to the Christie!
Heard a talk last night on Radio 4 when I couldn't sleep, based in Manchester,( by the accent as well as knowing the Prof's voice, yes, Prof Radford was on it) about cancer trials, we feel so lucky as he is obviously at the very top of his field. He recently asked Caz to start raising the profile of the Christie, and the Lymphoma association too. She is quite well placed to do so, of course, and if a second CD comes, she might be able to gain funding that way.
We hope the first CD will be announced maybe at the beginning of next month, keep checking here! Or I might even start a new thread.....
My love and hugs to you all

Hi Helen,
I do hope that Caz's pal manages to get to Northumberland for her Gran's funeral, parts of Northumberland are cut off love, and the weather here is deterioting by the hour, lets hope it gets better over the next couple of days, been listening to the radio, further snow I am afraid, bless her she will be so stressed.
Forecast minus twenty tomorrow, according to the radio, maybe the the wind chill as we are expecting drifts tomorrow, might have to dig ourselves out lo! Lets hope they have it wrong, it is freezing here, don't think I have saw snow like this since R was a little girl, still the kiddies are loving it, bless them, some little ones have never experienced this before, it is so much fun for them. One thing I will say is that the city council are working non-stop to keep our major roads open, I take my hat off to those lads.
I pray the snow stays away from your area so you can be with Caz on Friday, take care dear lady and stay warm.
Love and many hugs to you all
Maryxxxxxx
Caz was up, stuffing her face early this morning, as she has to starve for 6 hours before her scan, then took her sedative, bless her! She says there is still a lot of lying snow, hope its ok to get there tomorrow!
Have been clearing a route to the shed to top up the bird table with good range of food, we too have 4 inches of snow, quite rare for this area, the birds barely waited till I had gone, bless them, there has been a real huddle of them in there! We have a pair of quite tame blackbirds, they come nearer us than others, and have been as close as 3 feet away while we are outside, they were queueing up at the food too, and have drunk some of the water from the bath, too, as I tried to de-ice that.
Much love and big hugs to all, hope you manage to stay warm!
Moomy
