Hi everyone hope you are well I have breast cancer and had an awful 4 weeks with a surgeon who had no care. I now have been given a autism passport can anyone explain what rights u have when you go to the hospital

  • Hi  and I see it’s your first post so a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

Navigating this journey can be such a stressful and challenging. I have no idea what rights an Autism Passport will give you when you go to hospital.

But you may want to call the Macmillan Support Line that is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… as this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits and financial guidance or just a listening ear……. and they may be able to answer your question.

Talking with and getting support from people who have walked or are walking the ‘exact same' journey can help a lot.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend that you look to join and put up your own post in our dedicated…….

       Breast cancer

    …….. support group.

This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community……. all the very best in your treatment.

  • Did you find the Neurodivergence and Cancer forum? I am AuDHD and have breast cancer. Obviously I don't know your situation, but take your time if you can. You don't have to make any decisions right now. Pop over to the other forum though, you'll get help there.
