Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had any advice regarding life insurance. I've been cancer free for five years but have so far been turned down by both Scottish Widdows and Legal and General. There's also a family history of dementia which complicates things further but does anyone have any recommendations for companies that are more inclusive or am I just fighting a losing battle here.
Thanks,
Lew
Hi CanaryLew and I see it’s your first post so a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community.
I know from experience that Life Insurance is a minefield having been on my cancer journey for over 26 years with two very rare, hard to treat types of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphomas (one incurable), diamond 2012 with Asbestosis and recently Prostate Cancer.
I had a term policy connected to my mortgage that was taken out before my first diagnosis and a good death in service benefit when I was teaching…… But I had to retire early due to medical issues so lost that benefit.
Our mortgage was paid off a year after I retired (I retired at 55) so the term cover disappeared as well.
My ongoing experience in trying to get any life insurance has hit a brick wall…… I have talked with a few Insurance Brokers but due to me cancer history they say the only thing available for me is over 50 plans and death plans….. so we are just carful with our many and save as best as we can.
If you have not talked with an Insurance Broker I would do so….. as they are best placed to review your situation and look at what is on the market….. over the years I have talked with folks on this Community have been able to get cover but you may find the premiums high.
You could also try our Ask an Expert section but allow 2-3 working days to get a reply.
Thank you for that. Yeah, it's very frustrating. I'll keep up the pursuit and hopefully if I find somewhere I can share it here for others.
