Worrying about positive fit test

Hi, just a positive note, I had low iron, still do, so the GP asked me t do a fit test which came back positive. I am 70 so it was a red flag. I was convinced, even after well meaning conversations, that I had the bowel cancer. I had my colonoscopy and endoscopy yesterday and all was fine, just wanted to say that it's so easy to tell yourself you have it, when every little twinge you would probably ignore is magnified and every bowel movement is somehow different, but from the biggest doubter and pessimistic stay positive till you know different, a positive fit test doesn't mean you have cancer, all the best.

I think it can be so natural to worry when we have some unexplained symptoms which concern us, but your post is a very good reminder that things can have a less sinister outcome-despite our worries!

Pleased to hear you had good news following your colonoscopy.

I am awaiting the rest of my FIT test but with 4 red flags including blood on stools I expect it to come back positive. It is the waiting that is the most traumatic don't you think? Or possibly taking the prep before the colonoscopy I am certainly not looking forward to that

Yes the waiting is the worst it's cruel and you don't realise how much it affects you mentally, even afterwards when you find all is ok it takes a while to get back to the right headspace, the prep is crucial to a good outcome but I agree it's also quite harsh, it'll be done before you know it and fingers crossed, there's so many reasons for bleeding but we seem to ignore these and zone in on the worst outcome cos that's the way our brain works, good luck, I'm sure all will be fine x

Oh, that's a while, bless you, how was your fit test? Or are you still waiting, my fit test came back positive but in the meantime I received the UK fit test and sent that off which came back negative so it must have been a temporary bleed, this can happen also. When I received the positive one I rang the the helpline, they were so helpful and positive, I know we don't like bothering them but really they are helpful, wishing you the best xxxx
