I was diagnosed in 2023 with bowel cancer and was treated wonderfully at st Thomas’ in London - I had a sigmoid resection and some lymph nodes removed. I was very fortunate that I did not need any chemo or radiotherapy
I was called Back three months after my initial surgery for a colonoscopy where they found another polyp which was removed and since then I have been back every 4 to 6 months for yet another colonoscopy and every single time they find pre-cancerous polyps which are removed and sent to histology
I have CAT scans every 6 months as well as blood tests and so far touchwood all of those have come back negative for any more cancer however the continual growth of really big polyps is worrying me.
I also have some quite severe side-effects from my surgery I now have fast gut transit so everything I eat goes through me in less than an hour and I also have lower anterior resection syndrome which apparently is very common after cancer
I do realise how fortunate I am having my cancer treated so quickly and so well but the fact that these polyps keep on coming back and they are always the ones that are pre-cancerous does worry me moving forwards. my consultant stated that he believes I will be coming in every 4 to 6 months for the rest of my life to keep on top of these growths.
I was just wondering if anybody else else had the same experience and what advice they could give in understanding how these polyps come back and grow so quickly
huge thanks in advance

Hello Fran2702,
A warm welcome to the Macmillan online community, although I'm sorry you have the need to join.
I can understand your concerns. The online community comprises many cancer specific forums and I'd like to suggest that you join the bowel cancer forum and repost there. You will then be connected to others who have experience the same cancer and should be able to help you based on their own experiences.
I've placed a link to this below.
With my best wishes,
Derek.
