I'm looking for some advice, my mum is 72 years old, she has stage 3 T4 N1 M0 adenocarcinoma, she had her stomach removed about a year ago. She's been doing really well. However, for the past 3 weeks she's been struggling, she has been very lethargic, sleeping a lot and unable to exercise or going for a walk due to being tired all the time. Just getting up and cooking a bit of food is very tiring for her, after which she naps. She's also been struggling with constipation, however this past week she struggled with diarrhoea. Also, she's been complaining of having dry mouth. Aches here and there. Her oncologists are keeping a close eye on her, she had the CT scan with contrast last week, the result were good. However, they said they will do another scan in 3 months. Her B12 injection is not due until mid July.
But I'm still very worried about her as she's has not been herself for these 3 weeks, I'm also worried that she might not be drinking or eating enough when I'm at work during the week.
I was wondering whether anyone has any advice? Would be much appreciated.
Hi Baku and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I'm sorry to read how your mum is feeling right now.
The online community is divided into different support groups and, as you've mentioned that your mum had her stomach removed, I'm assuming that she has stomach cancer. If this is right can I recommend that you join and post in the stomach cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as your mum. If I've got this wrong please let me know what type of cancer she has so that I can give you a direct link to the group. Alternatively, you can look through this list.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi Anne, thank you for your response, I will re-post this in the stomach cancer group. Maria
