CT Scan

As a result of my recent blood test. My check ups are being reduced to 3 monthly. I'm having another CT Scan Wednesday. This appointment is via telephone call and snail mail has been rather dismal between Pinders' and me. The nurse didn't say anything about food and drink intake beforehand. I seem to remember in the past being told not to eat or drink a few hours before. My appointment is 08:30 so missing my morning pota' is not a problem but I do enjoy it.

What's the rule on food and drink intake before a CT scan ?

  • Hi

I have had a lot of CT scans over my 26 years on this road.

When my scan DID NOT use contrast I was told to eat and drink normally before the scan.
If my scan’s DID use contrast dye I was told to avoid solid foods for 4 hrs before my appointment and only drink clear liquids (water, clear juice, tea or coffee with no milk) up to 2 hrs before the scan.
    Best check in with them.

  • Thanks Highlander My one is with contrast

  • Probably best to check with your hospital. I have them regularly chest abdomen and pelvis and can’t eat anything from 2 hours before and have to drink plenty of water. You need to be hydrated so they can get the cannula in for the dye.
