Members of the Online Community have shared how helpful getting outside and walking has been for their mental health and wellbeing, even if it’s only a few steps around the garden or a few quiet moments in nature.

Hi guys I have just found the free Merlin app, there are two and the first one was £39.99 a year the second one is free. Thank you. I walk my dogs in the woods everyday and there are so many birds there and we get this ring neck parakeet in our garden every day.

Pretty birds but displace the native owls and jackdaws.
I used to live near Bushy Park where there were thousands. Luckily there are nine in my area of Shropshire.
This is one of our visitors sheltering from the rain

Hi Dani yes I read that they can be a threat and were talking about culling but didn't do it because of public outcry. I live in Staffordshire not sure how many around here. Is that a sparrow hawk? I love the birds I grew up in South Africa and my Dad loved the birds so used sugar water etc and we got sunbirds, humming birds and hoopoe all kinds in our garden. Also lots of chameleons which I love too and tortoises.

Hello Lee (Leelaloo0)
Reading your post brought back memories of 1984 when my wife and I travelled to South Africa and spent 6 weeks there staying with her brother as well as doing lots of travelling. The bird and animal life was amazing.
So I live in Oldham (in the grim North West) we are about 400 yards from a large Country park and in the last 12/18 months the parakeets have just started to show up here!
We do have a small local park behind our house and a couple of years ago a woodpecker established his home in a tree directly behind the house - he was very keen to start "pecking" at the crack of dawn every morning. They are great when you hear them in the distance - but not every morning at the crack of dawn 20 yards away from your bedroom window!!
I hope you enjoy using the app.
Best wishes - Brian.

They are really noisy as well when one spots food he screeches to all his friends that dinner is ready lol
I have a friend who lives in Esher where they roost. He can’t sell his house

Hi Clem16, it's wonderful to hear you have a garden. Have you been doing any gardening recently?
Best wishes,
Lizzie
