Hi my names clive aged 50 I feel like a fraud being on here gleason 3+3 6 t2 the word cancer scares me to the core I lost my mother with aggressive breast cancer at 48 she was diagnosed and passed away 9 months later there is so much going on in my head

  • Welcome to the group Clive. Cancer is a scary word and we all feel or have felt frightened at times. This is a lovely group of very different individuals all with different tales to tell. Some of us are patients and some are carers and we chat about all sorts of things day and night. Feel free to offload your worries here. There is a prostate cancer group as well which you would probably find useful. One of the community champions will let you have the link for that. When you first get a diagnosis you feel a whirlwind of emotions but that will gradually pass. Be kind to yourself. Sending hugs

  • Oops Clive I thought I was in the awake group hehe. The awake and up all night thread has people to chat too day and night and is very friendly…it’s too early in the morning for me!

  • Good Morning Clive (

I am Brian, one of the Community Champions here at Macmillan, I also have prostate cancer. No one is a "fraud", cancer is cancer and with a diagnosis along comes all the worries and anxiety.

As Linda ( said, we have a dedicated Prostate Cancer group on the Community where you can "meet" other in the same or similar journey - why not join us - here's the link you need:

    Prostate cancer forum

Once you click on the link I have provided and the page opens up, click on "join" on the black banner at the bottom of the page. Once you have joined us, why not introduce yourself by posting in the "New Here - Say Hello" section. You can either copy and paste or repost your post from above.

I can tell you that a Gleason 6 is the least aggressive on the Gleason Scale (I am a Gleason 9) and am quite happily living a full and active life over 4 years from diagnosis - although I am still having treatment.

I look forward to "meeting" you again in our little corner of the Community.

If you do need any further help in navigating the Community, please do get back to me.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Should never feel like a fraud Clive, we all have different diagnoses and treatment plans etc to follow. FWIW I was diagnosed with incurable but treatable cancer of the kidney which has spread to my lungs, in Oct '24. Started treatment in Jan '25 which was stopped in Oct due to ongoing side effects. To look at me, 67, you wouldn't think I had anything wrong with me cancer wise and I used to say to my good lady that I felt a fraud when I went to hospital for my treatment. We are all at different stages and when you walk into that hospital you know it's real and nothing fraudulent about it.

Take care , best wishes for the future
