Hi

I am currently at 3c stage for vulval and bowel cancer and have had a anovulvectomy Inc removal of lymph nodes and had radiol

Therapy etc, I am not currently in treatment but am worried as I have found more lumps in the vulva and wary about wat to do as my Dr didn't refer me in time last time so do not want to go through that again

  • Hi  and welcome to the Macmillan community.

This is a general chat group, but we have specific cancer support forums you can also join where you can connect with the people who’ve had the same types of cancer. If you click on these links I’ve made, you’ll be taken directly to them-

    Vulva Cancer Forum

    Bowel Cancer Forum

We also have a group specifically for support with stomas here

    Stoma Support Forum

I did a search in the all the groups in the community see if anyone has had the same surgery as you, but drew a blank unfortunately, although I see you have also asked your question to our nurses.

Your post caught my eye as I’ve also had major surgery for gynaecological cancer which included losing my vagina and rectum, and having two stomas formed, so I understand what it’s like to go through a similar type of surgery and how that feels.

Although I’m more than 6 years from my surgery, and no longer having regular checkups,  I can still contact my surgeon/consultant at any time if I’ve got any concerns about anything. Are you able to make contact with your surgeon/consultant via your cancer specialist nurse to get your concerns checked out?

I appreciate it’s very scary to find more lumps, but it’s best to be checked-I have never gone to my gp with anything connected with my cancer as it’s quicker to go direct to my consultant. But if you go to your gp, then given your history I’m sure you would get another referral to be seen by gynaecology.

It’s better to be seen and checked than to sit worrying. This is a huge surgery you’ve gone through, so I’d really encourage you to have these lumps investigated.

    Sarah xx
